Yeah that would be good, then maybe hit up Wiki of Ice and Fire to fill in some blanks.

I say start with book 4 and you will be alright. Snobby book people will tell you that you will be lost, but you will be fine.

Or "snobby book people" know that the show has deviated quite a bit from the books in some parts and has jumped around enough that it would be confusing. Maybe if the show had followed the books to the letter could you pull that off.

Just start with Book 1. You have until next Spring, why not take your time?

If you start with Book 3, you'll finish too early anyway.

I'd also not advise "filling in" with the ASOIAF wiki if you don't read from Book 1. You're just asking to get spoiled along the way if you do.

fricking This.

I "wandered" to the wiki site when I was in Book 2, and learned, IN ONE SENTENCE OF READING, two major spoilers.

One of those is what happened on the show last night.

I immediately took an internet hiatus for all things GOT.

What "harm" would it "do" if the person has "seen" the "show" up to this "point" anyway?

Im just messing with you. It happened to me early on (getting soiled by the website) but I don't mind spoilers and knowing what happens. I am just weird that way

There are a lot of people who don't though. Obviously you could do it after you've read all of the books, but they have a tendency to drop things in the opening paragraph on the page regarding a character or place that has spoilers clear through the last book.
