In honor of the Pluto flyby, I am rewatching the episode. Although I always loved the ending, I completely forgot about the treasure trove of one-liners in it.

Leo: Do you want to get some work done or would you rather mock people?
Josh: I'd rather mock people.

Really, the whole scene where Josh gets stuck with the stamp assignment

Leo's absolutely droll delivery of "Think of the whales, Mr. President."

And of course Donna's "Philately is fun, Josh" Josh: (now paying FULL attention) WHAT is fun?

Finally, the kicker at the end of the episode: "You said it right that time, CJ." One line that just encapsulates the wonder and awe I feel about new information and images coming from space.

At its best, the West Wing is just some of the best writing for TV ever, and it just never gets old.

My wife and I got into this for a bit on Netflix a while back. Really love it, but hated how preachy it got, which duh, politics, but it couldn't have been more "we're the only good ones out there" if it had tried

How far did you get into it? Was it left leaning? of course it was but i never really felt it was overly preachy and there were numerous times where they made Republicans look good and Dems look like jackasses.

bottom line, it is a tv show about politics, of course its gonna be slanted left, you should put that aside and finish the series, it is really worth it.

Wow! This thread is weird. I just watched that episode last night by coincidence. Have been watching it in order on Netflix.

By the way, while the show is left leaning, it's mild by today's hyper-political standards. The main character is a democrat, so it's to be expected a bit.

I, being rather political, can get turned off by liberal music/movies/tv, etc.

I have no issues with WW whatsoever. It's much milder than Sorkin's attempt to reinvent the magic on Newsroom, which is amazing considering Sorkin attempted to force feed us a "moderate Republican" in it.

West Wing is second only to BOB in the category of "greatest thing put on television."

I never saw the WW on television (I'm 25) and ran through it two or so years ago on Netflix and absolutely loved it. I've even ran through the series for a second time so far.

They do a great job, IMO, of continually coming up with great stories and plot lines with none really feeling forced or just totally over the top. It is definitely from a liberal point of view, but it never bothered me. You just have to accept that liberal's and their ideals exist and just appreciate the story because to me they really didn't force anything down your throat.

Only complaint is Donna. Never liked her character at all. She was on an episode of House and I kept rooting for her character to die in the episode because of how annoying she was to me in the WW.

I hate the Newsroom because the whole premise was garbage. A conservative anchor doing NOTHING but attacking other conservatives. Also, a ton of the language/jokes were almost identical to stuff he did in West Wing and Sports Night.

I watch the entire series about once a year, although I am finally hitting an over saturation point.

Haffley was about the only over the top Evil Republican. Also that minister. And while they attacked over the top religion, Bartlett was a bible quoting Christian so it wasn't a full on assault on religion.

Heck, there was more than one occasion when they made Democrats out to be clowns too. Most notably, the Chesapeake cleanup that was thwarted by Democrats because the co-sponsoring Republican had a tough re-election battle.

Disagree. I really only hated Mandy and the dude who was Josh's intern in like season 5 or so.

I actually like Mandy.

I'm trying to think of my most hated character...

It might be Abbey.

The speech Bartlett gave after the swim team died running into the fire to save people was very powerful. One of the best scenes in TV that I've seen.

President Josiah Bartlet: More than any time in recent history, America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

44 people were killed a couple of hours ago at Kennison State University. Three swimmers from the men's team were killed and two others are in critical condition. When, after having heard the explosion from their practice facility, they ran into the fire to help get people out. Ran *in* to the fire.

The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight. They're our students and our teachers and our parents and our friends. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels, but every time we think we have measured our capacity to meet a challenge, we look up and we're reminded that that capacity may well be limitless. This is a time for American heroes. We will do what is hard. We will achieve what is great. This is a time for American heroes and we reach for the stars. God bless their memory, God bless you and God bless the United States of America. Thank you.

Mandy sucked. Heck, they knew Mandy sucked which is why she went bye bye so fast.

Angela Blake sucked too.

Josh being ranked at 17 is some kind of bad joke. Below Zoey? Puh-lease!
