The scene where he finally speaks his mind to Mike. He can't even get out of the chair. Damn man, at least get out of the chair and stand up to your brother if you are going to go this route.

He showed his weakness when he let Mo Green slap him around in public.

He showed his weakness when he fumbled his pistol as assassins were pumping five shots into the old man, then sat there on the curb and cried.

If Fredo was intelligent, he would have gone off to fricking Australia. He had no place in the mafia or anywhere within eye sight of it. He should have just asked Michael for 10 million dollars from the start, taken it, and moved as far away as humanly possible.

Particularly after the Cuba incident.

John Cazale's weak enraged Fredo

I have always thought that was one of John Cazale's defining performances. Fredo's years of suppressed rage rose up and signed his own death warrant. The way he uses the chair as part of his character and performance is amazing. Molten rage then craven weakness.

I read somewhere recently that Cazale only appeared in a handful of movies but that each one he was in was nominated for an Oscar.

Yes, Cazale was in 5 movies:

The Godfather

The Conversation

The Godfather 2

Dog Day Afternoon

The Deer Hunter

...evey single one is an American masterpiece and every single one was nominated for beat picture and 3 won best picture in the finest decade of movie making ever. (the conversation and Godfather 2 both came out in same year.)

Say what you want, but no one in the history of Hollywood ever had a better career.

In the books he was gay, the Don knew. Tom told Mike. He had multiple instances in Vegas and in Canada (outside of Detroit) which Tom was able to handle.

Just remember how Michael found out the Fredo had been working against the family, he mentioned that him and Johnny O, when to a strips clubs and started talk bout how big of dick some guy had. He had become a too much of liability.

I read The Godfather about 35 years ago, so I can't say I have a fresh memory of it. However, I don't recall Fredo being homosexual. Is there a second Godfather book?

In The Godfather II movie, Mo Green explained that he smacked Fredo around because he was banging cocktail waitresses two at a time and gamblers couldn't get drinks.

When Fredo was explaining how he knew about the Supernan show (Johnny Ola had brought him), they were all AT the Superman show. He was the guy who opens up his robe at the end of the scene. Does watching a live sex show make a guy gay?
