Pretty disturbing how much of that movie is true.

I didn't realize Lin Wood also represented Richard Jewell in addition to Watson. In case you don't venture onto the poliboard, Lin Wood also represented Sandman aka "native america drum in his face" and now Rittenhouse.

Didn't realize the woman reporter who broke the story the FBI was investigating Jewell basically OD'd in 2001 right before 911 because she was so distraught over the whole thing.

What a fricked up move by the FBI to pin the blame when they knew almost from the beginning it wasn't him. Can't believe the shite they tried to pull on Jewell.

Also Nadya still works for Lin Wood.

What the media did to that man is unconscionable. I get angry just thinking about it.

What's funny (or not) is how they were so dead set on Jewell being the guy, that they overlooked simple math. Any first year investigator would have realized that he couldn't have dropped the bag and had time to call 911 and then get back in time when the bomb exploded. But he was a weird, overweight, gun loving mama's boy, so they and the media crucified him.

Also disturbing how much of it isn't true. Hauser was good. No other good things to say about this one.

If anything the movie undersold how hard they went after him and made his life hell. They undersold how much of a lousy count the journalist was and how much of a shithead Jon Hamm’s character was. It was the biggest story in the world at the time and they tried to pin it all without hestitafion with full reckless abandon on a man who could not physically do what they accused him of. Hell the track stars in Atlanta wouldn’t have been able to pull it off.

The FBI has all these profiles but that was the laziest stereotype gotcha we've seen.

Oh, he's somewhat of a loner, lives with Mom, doesn't have a GF, wants to be a Cop but fails, so he must be seeking attention...oh and we think he's a rube so we can roll over him.

I mean, they literally settled on a movie stereotype and went after him.

The FBI investigation was rife with a disdainful and prejudicial attitude to someone like Richard.

It's one thing to think that...and investigate...but to leak it to the press?

"They knew within days of going through his apartment that he didn't do it, but they continued to accuse him," says G. Watson Bryant Jr., one of Jewell's attorneys. "Their conduct is just despicable."

Not sure it really shows his range as an actor but Jon Hamm plays a pretty good a-hole federal agent.

It is in a movie, so it has to be true.

she had a history of having "romantic relationships" with cops and and other people to get scoops and so I don't think it was much of a stretch to think she bagged a gman to get the Richard jewell info out of them.

She's clearly not around to refute the stories so of course her friends and family will deny it.

She fit the profile of the slutty do-anything reporter so if she can ruin jewell's life based on a profile she gets the same treatment.

Finally got to see it on Prime.

Really good movie; surprised how good it was considering the scope of the movie.

Wish though they had not insinuated that the FBI leak to the press was just because of drunken sex with Kathy Scruggs.

Leak was intentional for the city of Atlanta and financial reasons so people would say, hey the FBI has their guy, we can now go back to the Games and spend all our money.

Atlanta needed a quick scapegoat to quell fears while the Games were still going on...once the Games were over, they dropped Richard as a suspect.

They knew early on he couldn't have done it. I wish the movie would've showed that...their deceitful railroading of Jewell for reasons beyond solving the crime.

The only hint of that is from his lawyer when Jewell asks how they can wiretap his home and his lawyer says: "because you don't matter."

In the big picture of saving the Games, that is the truest statement.

Agree with this. RJ was blamed b/c the US, Atlanta, and the IOC couldn't afford the embarrassment of having no idea who did the attack. They needed a scapegoat to make people feel safe and jumped on him b/c he was an easy target.

Not much different than how the West Memphis 3 got blamed for murder IMO.
