I'm probably in the minority, but I have never thought Star Trek all that good. Even Wrath of Khan was meh for me.

Wrath of Khan gets put on a pedestal, but it really isn't leagues better than any of the other films in the franchise. None of them have aged particularly well.

I would rank them as such

Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek (2009)
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Star Trek: Insurrection
Star Trek Beyond
Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Trek: TMP
Star TreK III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek: Nemesis
Star Trek: Generations

Except that it is one of the best action films, regardless of sub-genre - ever - ever.

If you can't see the difference in quality between TWOK and TFF, Insurrection, Nemesis or anything from 2009 to present - I can't help you.

(ETA: No one is a bigger fan of the original series than I am - I think TWOK and First Contact are the class of the film franchise - the rest vary from outstanding - TUC holds up because of the guest acting - to unrecognizable as Star Trek - like 2009 with just fast, random action sequences, wooden acting, reducing the classic characters to one-note jokes.)

Star Trek: Insurrection

The boring plot and subpar effects took me out of this one quickly. Star Trek V had the same problems. Those were the two worst Trek films IMO.

Insurrection is like a 90 minute episode of the TV show. I like the show a lot, so it wasn't all together a bad thing.

I thought Star Trek V was for better or worse closest in spirit to the original series right down to the hokey action scenes and special effects.

Sorry that your opinion sucks.

Was probably the most "Trek" of the reboots. Was a fun movie. Looking forward to the next installment.

It does have that look and feel. It seemed like I had seen an episode of TNG that was similar to the plot as well, which was also an issue. If they're going to release it as a major motion picture, they had to step up their game. The only thing I liked about Star Trek V was the scenes between Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

The first and second were interesting. This last one...not at all.

I really didn't understand the love for this movie. It was as bad as nemesis and stole part of the plot.

Talk about deus ex machina. Music? Really.

I like the cast. I don't mind action but the plot is horrible and not remotely rational and they continue to use absurd coincidences in the reboots. Spock in a cave now Kirk just happens to get the artifact the bad guy needed then just happened onto his planet.

Yawn.

I can't bring myself to watch it after the first 2 terrible movies ruined Star Trek. The Star Trek universe is nearly in the same boat as the DC universe at this point.

y'all are fricking crazy.

I've enjoyed all 3.

First one is the best.

The reboot has been hit or miss with me.

The time travel aspects of the first movie seemed a bit convoluted to me, and I wasn't that interested in the crew's origin story.

I liked Into Darkness better, but the Khan retread hurts it a lot.

I haven't gotten around to seeing the last one yet.

I liked one and two.

The first one, I know it was massively flawed but I was happy enough to have Trek on the screen to overlook the fact the Klingons sat in the same spot in space for 24 years.

I didn't mind the II. Had its moments. Should have kept to the first ending and it was way too obvious how it was gong to turn out.

III was just absurd. Insane coincidences. Same plot as Nemesis with the bad guy going from little peon to ruling the fracking planet. Misplaced anger even though he knows he was in an uncharted area of space with no communications. Music. Big pile of crap.

The main villain was a clone of Captain Kirk made by the Romulans? Shinzon took over the Romulan Empire. The main villain in Star Trek Beyond was just the leader of the group that got marooned on that planet.

I haven't seen it yet because Into Darkness was so bad. Will probably watch it once it pops up on Netflix. Plus, why do you cast the hot Arab woman from Kingsman and put her under a ton of makeup?

Tom Hardy's character in Nemesis was a clone of Picard, not Kirk.

I'd say Star Trek 2009 was closer to the plot of Nemesis than it was to Beyond

Rogue Romulan with extremely advanced ship and a personal grudge to settle. Not to mention their world was destroyed in both.

It also certainly didn't help that Nero looked nearly identical to Shinzon.

I've been trying to exercise restraint in these and just let y'all go at it - after all, I didn't watch Into Lameness or Beyond Ridiculous
If you hated the first one (I thought it was okay), you'll definitely hate the second and third. Darkness seemed proud of itself that it clusterfricked the time line and was able to randomly spit out elements of the ST universe because they couldn't come up with anything original.

Beyond is just completely ridiculous, especially that dirt bike scene.

Slave / stranded person goes from certain death to the RULING the planet. Yes that is the same.

In both cases the slave / stranded person has an irrational hatred of the federation. Really weak arse reasons in both to want to destroy the federation / earth.

I didn't say it was word for word the same but those are similar weak plot points from both.

Did you miss the part where he took over the planet and their technology all by himself after his crew died?
