I've been getting into the series and mostly skipping around. So far, my favorites are probably Squeeze, Pusher and Paper Hearts.

Is it worth it to figure out the episodes making up subplots (smoking man) and watching them consecutively?

It's been awhile since I've watched X-files. Jose Chung's From Outer Space has always been my favorite though. D.P.O. is probably next.

Probably? I'd think it wouldn't make sense if you watched all those out of order.

I have a hard time recalling episode names off of the top of my head, but Die Hand Die Verletz was one of my favorites.

I don't remember the names either, but the one where the Spanish Conquistadors were still living in the swamps of FL.

FWIW, I watched every episode/got sucked down the rabbit hole and I definitely would not do it again.

Unlike Lost, the X-Files was not worth the trouble IMO.

That was called Detour. Good choice.

Kind of agree. After being disappointed with the way the X-Files played out, I didn't even bother with Lost...didn't have the time or energy. Maybe one day.

Can't remember the name of the episode. It's set up like an episode of cops & I think the thing that they were after took the form of what you feared the most.

The werewolf episode on the Indian reservation. The American version of the Loch Ness monster. The gargoyle serial killer.

I much prefer the independent episodes to the ones tied to the main story arc.

The one that stuck with me the most was Home. Pretty disturbing, and everytime I hear Johnny Mathis' "Wonderful", I immediately think of it.

Another one was "Humbug." The one where they hang out with the traveling freak show and the Fiji Mermaid keeps killing people.
