Holy cow, Egerton looks different.

LINK

Also, I think it could be a nice switch up to the underdog story in sports movies.

I remember back when all this happened and Eddie the Eagle was a huge story. Supposedly the embarrassment of the whole affair was so strong that the British Olympic committee made radical changes in how they trained and supported athletes just so that something like this never happened again to them.

No. It was the IOC that made the rule. My understanding was that Eddie was not viewed as an embarrassment by the British, but quite the opposite.

Isn't this what lead to the establishment of minnium Olympic standards?

From Wiki:

quote:

In response to the Edwards phenomenon, in 1990, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) instituted what became known as the Eddie the Eagle Rule, which requires Olympic hopefuls to compete in international events and be placed in the top 30 percent or the top 50 competitors, whichever is fewer.[11]

Yep, the British love him. I heard about this on a British podcast and they referred to eddy as "the great British folk hero."

I've seen the movie and its a fun sports film, very much like Cool Runnings.

In fact
*Mild Spoilers*
they make reference to the Jamaican Bobsled team in the movie.

Definitely not Joel Egerton. It's the kid from Kingsman, Taron Egerton.
