Isn’t Easter supposed to be about Christ resurrection? Not feeling the Easter spirit of some dude getting beaten for 3 hours but I guess I’m also not Christian so maybe it’s different for yall

Times are CDT.

TCM's schedule today:

7 am The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima (1952)

11 am Godspell (1973)

2 pm The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965)

4:30 pm The Robe (1953)

7 pm Easter Parade (1948)

9 pm King of Kings (1961)

https://www.tcm.com/schedule?icid=mainnav6-daily-schedule

ETA: The Robe is really good. IMDb

quote:

In the Roman province of Judea during the 1st century, Roman tribune Marcellus Gallio is ordered to crucify Jesus of Nazareth but is tormented by his guilty conscience afterwards.
Richard Burton plays the Roman soldier who crucified Christ.

The guy who plays Caligula is over-the-top crazy. The hate in his voice when he says "Christians" makes it worth watching.

Easter is celebrated on Resurrection Sunday which is the culmination of Holy Week (or Passion Week) which begins on Palm Sunday (Jesus' return to Jerusalem) and ends with his resurrection. This week also includes the Last Supper; Jesus's prayers and betrayal in the Garden; Good Friday - the crucifixion, death and burial of Jesus; Holy Saturday (Jesus in the tomb and descent); and Easter Sunday - Resurrection Sunday.

So, yes, Easter Sunday is the celebration of the Resurrection but that is the culmination of Holy Week. That said, I think Passion of the Christ is a fitting depiction of what Christian's celebrate on Easter Sunday as it does depict the crucifixion of Jesus and culminates with the resurrection of Jesus.

I find the Mel Gibson version of the passion way to violent. I know that is a minority opinion, but I kind grew up watching the 1970's version Jesus. I do not need to see the graphic violence to know what the Romans did to people.

I still think you cannot be Charlton Heston as Moses...

If Die Hard is a Christmas movie, then Mallrats is an Easter movie.
