Including a $185 million cume in the United States. Not bad for a WWII with no Americans in it to speak of.

It is a solid movie.

It won't win many awards. But is very good.

It's a front runner for Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars.

It's going to win at least 4 Oscars (Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Film Editing, and Cinematography) and will probably win the Oscar for Best Director.

Really?

I figured by the time we got through "Oscar season", there'd be a few other movies that stand out more. I think Dunkirk will clean up the technical stuff though.

I can't think of it offhand, but wasn't there some social justice warrior PC bullshite Oscar bait movie that came out earlier this or is going to come out here soon?

Oscar Predictions

quote:

BEST PICTURE 1. “Dunkirk” (11/2 odds): Nine experts Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Joyce Eng (TV Guide), Tim Gray (Variety), Christopher Rosen (Entertainment Weekly), Anne Thompson (Indiewire), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Brian Truitt (USA Today), Adnan Virk (ESPN), Jeffrey Wells (Hollywood-Elsewhere), Susan Wloszczyna (RogetEbert.com)

quote:

BEST DIRECTOR “Dunkirk” helmer Christopher Nolan is way out front to win Best Director, with 15 experts predicting him to prevail on his first time in this race for his epic depiction of a key defeat for Allies in WWII. That support translates into leading odds of 2/1. Also expected to be in contention in this category for the first time is Guillermo del Toro, who has three votes and odds of 5/1 for his fantasy film “The Shape of Water.”

There are other sites that also have similar info, but I'll just leave this here.

Liked it a lot, mid tier Nolan movie. Maybe top 3 of the year in a very down year movie wise so far.

That's how I saw it. Aside from being loud AF, the movie was fantastic

mother! is my dark horse IF the Academy decides to go "all in" SJW this year. It has outraged Christians, which is a big plus.

Gold Derby is generally good at prognosticating the major awards. That's why I'm very excited that they have Gary Oldman as the faraway favorite to win Best Actor in a Leading Role for Darkest Hour. Apparently four of the five top contenders for Best Picture have already screened for critics, including Darkest Hour. That must mean the movie and Oldman are both solid.

It was WAY too loud. Everyone I was with complained about the volume level.

When you have piercing SFX as with bullets - you have to bring the decibel level down. I'm surprised people didn't get Tinnitus.

I hate movies where the dialogue is deliberately toned down and the SFX deliberately raised. It's a trend in Hollywood that's annoying - so you constantly have to turn the TV up and down. Fight Club is a good example of this.

I don't think you'll have to worry about any more box office updates from Dunkirk. It's run is just about over with.

Does it bash Trump?

Does it have a minority as the lead?

Doubt it wins.
