That was horrible. Hate the new companion, and will be glad when Capaldi's run is over. Can't stand him as The Doctor. Hopefully they will pick somebody good this time around.

Capaldi has run circles around Smith, and I loved Smith. Peter has been a very welcome tangent from the doctor getting younger and younger.

Season 9 was one of the best in Modern Who. His first season was rocky, but that is easily placed on shoddy writing and not Capaldi.

As for the premiere, I thought it was good. The villain was creepy, but had a nice resolution. Bill's sexuality felt organic and not at all forced, so people need to get over that bit.

The moment when the Doctor was about to wipe her memory and she asked him to imagine someone doing that to him...then Clara' s theme starred playing...damn the feels.

I'm excited to see how Moffat and Capaldi finish this out and also I'm excited to see Chibnall tale over.

I hope this episode fills the season's Dalek quota because I don't want another mish mash weak Dalek episode just to hold onto the rights.

Also, very excited about two Masters.

To each his own, right? I just don't care for Capaldi's rendition of the Doctor. Maybe it's the writing or whatever. But then I think Eccleston's version was really good. So there's that.

I missed that. That could be very interesting.

The two Masters is the only thing I'm looking forward to this season. I'm just so done with Moffat's convoluted, inconsistent plotting.
I was pretty lukewarm about Bill, but they did a decent job with the character. She's bright and likable. At least she's not The Impossible Girl or the Girl Who Waited, more of a puzzle to be solved than a character. I'm kind of done with the romantic issues between the Doctor and companions. He's a 2,000 year old time traveler with two hearts who becomes a different person when he dies...I mean, I get the feeling he looks at humans the way we look at dogs. He's really fond of them, likes being around them, and goes out of his way to protect them. But the idea of the Doctor carrying a torch for human woman gets to be a bit much. The stuff with River Song is kind of pushing it -- she's a quasi Time Lord and Alex Kingston played her with a lot of brass, so she felt like the Doctor's equal. I always thought the Doctor wanted attractive young women as companions was the same way you wouldn't want to have an ugly-arse dog.

I'm a big fan of Tennant and his version of the Doctor but I really hated his infatuation with Rose. It didn't work at all.

I was thinking more of Donna - that still upsets me to think about.

That's just crazy talk.

The thing is, Smith actually played him as an eccentric old man who was OK with who he is. "Bowties are cool" is the kind of thing you expect grandpa to say. From the beginning, Capaldi's doctor has been trying to prove that he's the same young guy despite the old man face. "Wi-fi!" "Twitter!!!" Look at my sunglasses and guitar!!!!

At first, I thought it was just for the first episode to convince Clara, who had never seen a regeneration. But it really got to be too much. He spent two seasons talking about being the doctor and what it means to be the doctor. As I said earlier, just too meta. I don't know how much - if any - influence Capaldi has had on the writers, but I couldn't help thinking there may have been some issues with having a fanboy acting the lead with fanboy writers in control.

Well so far this is shaping up to be the worst season of New Who by a large margin. And I've mostly liked the capaldi years. I still don't care at all for Bill. I do want to know what's in the vault though.

Episode 1 - just terrible
Episode 2 - far inferior sort of copy of The Girl Who Waited
Episode 3 - inferior version of The Beast Below
