Do I need to watch Firefly before the movie Serenity?

That's kind of like asking if you should watch the Lord of the Rings movies in order.

The movie is set after the series, and is considered to be the "finale". You'll enjoy the whole story more if you watch it in order.

Its not totally necessary but your enjoyment of Serenity will be higher if you watch Firefly first.

I saw Serenity first and didn't have trouble following it. I really wish I had started with Firefly though after going back and watching it.
