He's the last man standing, and you don't get to be the last man standing without a reason. Maybe with collusion or approval from outside, but I think he had a hand in it.

Absolutely not. He didn't even want to be captain of the crew when he was promoted and only took it so he wouldn't be taking orders from Patsy. He's not the type to fight for power. I'd go Patsy before I say Paulie.

I always thought it was possible he sold out to New York. I doubt he was orchestrating anything.

Can't see it. Paulie wasn't tough enough to go thru with something like that. Like Clemenza in The Godfather, Paulie wasn't the type to go for the top spot. He was a loyal capt. But that's where it ended.

He was close to selling out to Johnny Sack earlier in the series.
I personally think it was Little Carmine. He knew to but New York back on top and keep his pockets fat Tony had to go.

Paulie didn't have anything to do with it but obviously a deal between New York and New Jersey was made at some point.
It just never made sense that New York, which outnumbered Jersey something like 5 to 1, would be OK with their boss getting whacked while Tony skated.

Tony didn't do shite for Paulie (or his mother) when Paulie was in prison on the gun charge, and he never fully forgave Tony for it.
