I watched this for the first time last night and thought it was great. The Neil Perry character and real life Robin Williams were eerily similar. Overall I thought it was well done and a fantastic movie.

It was a staple in high school English classes all through the 90s.

I took at date to see it in the theater

I always loved the last scene when they stand on the desks, especially the dude that mocks the class

Top ten best movies ever. No question.

John Keating: Language was developed for one endeavor, and that is... Mr. Anderson? Come on, are you a man or an amoeba?
[Todd stays silent]
John Keating: Mr. Perry?
Neil Perry: To communicate.
John Keating: No! To woo women

It's an incredible movie. I haven't seen it in many years. I should rewatch it soon.

And you knew the teacher was expecting everyone to tell him how inspiring he was, and instead we'd all say "O captain my captain!" sarcastically for the rest of the semester.

Robin Williams was grossly underrated as a serious actor. Instead he gets labelled as a great comedic actor.

This movie and The World According to Garp are by far his best acting.

He did win a supporting Oscar for Good Will Hunting and was nominated for Best Actor three times. He was incredible in Good Morning, Vietnam, even beyond the humor. Some other notable performances include The Fisher King, One Hour Photo, and Insomnia. He studied at Julliard on a full scholarship. He was just such an incredible comedic dynamo; it is understandable that is how he is remembered. Universally beloved by pretty much everyone, it's hard to believe he's gone, especially in that manner.

I never found his hyperactive, free-associating schtick funny. I thought he was a great dramatic actor, though.

I got the impression that he studied comedy the way he studied acting. It was like he was a serious actor preforming a character who was a zany comedian. The manic stream of conscious stuff made me uncomfortable more than it made me laugh.

Do you like Stephen Wright? His comedic persona is sort of the opposite of Robin Williams. I like him a lot.

When robin Williams was doing drama and at his best, there was a sincerity that came through his character. A basic level humanity that few people in real life display, but he could demonstrate in his acting.

I've only seen it once. It was the last movie I saw in theaters with my mom before she passed away. I still can't bring myself to watch it.
