David Schwimmer delivers lines written for him in a slightly better fashion than James Corden delivers line written for him.

CBS needs to stop playing around and give the Late Show to James Corden before another network takes him.

You can bet if Colbert's ratings stay the same, they will can him by the end of next year and give the show to the British Jimmy Fallon aka Corden. It will be two versions of the same show with similarly talented hosts, should make for a very interesting new late night war.

As someone who never ever watches late night TV shows, I am interested in how they are doing nonetheless. Does someone know who is killing it, who is treading water, and who is sinking?

He doesn't have the clout of a Leno for the network to just up and give him Colbert's job. He's locked in to his late late show for at least the next 10-12 years.

This is simly not true. Colbert only signed a 3 yr contract in Sept 2015 and took a rather big pay cut for the Late Show ($6 mil/yr down to $4.6/yr). If he continues to fall behind Fallon CBS not only will not renew his contract in 2 yrs and elevate Corden, they might even fire Colbert early and just pay off the $8 mil or so they'd owe him, chump change for a giant tv network.
Morning shows and Late Night is where the networks make a lot of ad money…CBS is currently failing at both. Hell, the could even give Corden the Late Show and a raise, and pay off Colbert and still be paying less per year than NBC pays just Fallon alone(approx $12 mil/yr).
