"David Letterman is returning to the airwaves. Two years after retiring from his 33-year run as a late-night television host, Netflix on Tuesday (Aug. 8) announced a deal with the former "Late Show" host for a six-episode series to premiere in 2018.

The new hour-long show, which has yet to be named, will feature Letterman conducting long-form interviews "with extraordinary people" -- one per show -- as well as the sort of in-the-field comedy segments that were for years a staple of his late-night show."

You don't unretire at that age unless you are getting flat out paid. That number is probably massive.

ETA: Sheesh. I hope they told him to clean up a bit

Seems he would rather go back to TV instead of the North Pole.

I'm picturing ron burgundy drunk and disgusting at the bar, jumps into bathroom and in 10 seconds he's all spiffy and cleaned up shaven.

Netflix data analytics are pretty damn spot on when it comes to determining what people want to watch and letting their talent have free reign creatively. Interesting to see how this turns out

This is kind of what I wish Howard Stern would do over Letterman. I just want Howard to retire from his show and solely focus on long form interviews. Kind of like what Joe Rogan is currently doing.

Howard is a fossil in the current media environment, but he is still one of the greatest living interviewers. Focus on the interviews and nothing else.

That's odd.

He just told Norm McDonald he has no interest in doing anything like the DLS.

Letterman is insufferable now that he likes to promote his political agenda.

Will not watch.

This is why Stephen Colbert is so bad on his show. Check out his interview with Bill Burr. It's everything that's wrong with the new PC culture in comedy.

They should have thrown that money and show Howard Stern's way. His interviews lately have been incredible

Yeah, that was cringe worthy. It's so much better when he goes on Conan who likes uncomfortable humor and knows how to deal with it.

He's not doing his old talk show. It's hour long interviews with one guest per show. And if you've seen him on Norm, or Funny or Die, or the R&RHoF, he's no longer looking to strictly entertain. He's always considered himself a broadcaster, and I'm guessing that's what he'll be doing with these interviews. Trying to get interesting info out of his interviewees.
