Watching Game of Thrones season 2 with my dad. He's getting pissed that the "bad guys" always win and is pissed that Tyrion doesn't flee King's Landing with Sansa and join with the Starks. I really see no hope that he'll watch the show after the Red Wedding. I can just about assure he's going to give me a frick you for it since he knows I've read the novels.

Is there a site like towerofthehand.com for the Malazan series? The only thing about those books for me is I don't really know what a lot of the races are supposed to look like. I know the Jaghut have big tusks, but what are all the T'lan races supposed to look like? And a site to help keep most of the characters straight would help.

I haven't really used any sites for Malazan really, but this site might be what you are looking for in some ways:

Please stop highjacking this thread with non-GoT material. Start a new one. Thanks.

I'd suggest settling your happy arse down. Just responding to a question. This is an almost 200 page thread Cotton started and we've all been posting in for almost a year now, it's not going off topic for more than a few posts at a time, as it has pretty much the entire time.

If you don't like how we've discussed things in here feel free to start your own damn Game of Thrones thread. I'll continue to answer folks questions in here, GOT related or not.

Oh I'm relaxed, but you must be fairly new to the thread. It's 90% ASOIAF related stuff, but we roll off topic from time to time. And once every 30-40 pages somebody generally asks for reading suggestions, which is a natural progression for a topic that's about a major fantasy book series.

Reminicing on how the whole Game of Thrones began when Rhaegar "stole" Lyanna

So, will someone give me the background on what happened here? I remember reading about this, but can't recall it.

Rhaegar and Lyanna ran off together. Ned's brother and some friends went to the King and demanded that they give her back and threatened a bit, because they believed she was kidnapped. The King had them arrested and called their parents to court. When the parents came, the King gave Neds father the trial by fire and simply burned him alive with his brother choking to death trying to save him.

The King then demanded Jon Arryn give up Ned and Robert and he refused, calling his banners instead. At which point the war started.
