They might not pull the Deadwood treatment again, but if it got too big for it's britches HBO hasn't been afraid to force an early, rushed exit.
Boardwalk Empire is a good example of that.
Apples and Oranges Belle. GOT is and will continue to be just fine. No matter how many book readers stop watching.

GRRM is astonished by fan support over missed Game of Thrones deadline

Hes been struggling to get to his end game ever since Storm of Swords came out.
I think his main issue was getting the dragons big enough to wreck shite which is why Dany sat and twiddled her thumbs over in Esseos. Initially he wrote Feast for Crows taking place a few years after Storm of Swords
Now I think he just doesn't give a frick with the TV show beating him to the finish and everybody knowing who Jon's parents are.
The whole "these books are long and take time to write" is bullshite. Yea they are difficult and time consuming but plenty of authors are able to release these types of books in a timely manner. Martin himself was able to with the first three books.
Hes just dead set on finishing with his original ending but can't figure out a way that makes sense for all the pieces to get there.

He's hoping D&D show him how to get there.

I hate all of you for the last three pages of this thread. I hate GRRM the most......

He's stuck and doesn't know how to connect the story with the ending he has in mind. He doesn't want to rush his life's work and have it be terrible. I still hate him.

Can we expect the Horn of Joramun to make an appearance in this book?

I was always under the impression that that cover was fan made and not the actual cover. It is the best possible cover for WoW though. Aside from ice and snow, nothing quite symbolizes winter and the doom it brings quite like a giant horn.
As for A Dream of Spring's cover, I think I've got a good idea for it: The side of the wall, with water melting down it, and a blue rose sprouting in it's center.

He needs to rapidly murder characters. In my opinion, these should be the only POV surviving characters by ADOS:
Tyrion
Sansa
Arya
Bran
Dany
Jon
Samwell
Make it simple again. Just have it focused on these characters, and maybe Cersei if she's somehow still alive.
I cut out a few more for you

Why no Jaime? Would really hate for him to go down with Cersei. That would give her some satisfaction in her death, when I'm wanting it to be just as devastating for her as it was for Cat.

I think he will die in the final battle scene in the final season. He could join forces with Dany and die for her. I would be ok with that.

Yeah, that's how I'm thinking how he honestly goes down as well. Maybe not for Dany, but for Jon. Jaime's biggest regret (aside from lying to Tyrion) is not protecting Rhaegar's children. It's the only other action he has any actual regret over. I am curious how Jaime will react to Aegon's presence, and then to the revelation that Jon is actually Rhaegar's heir. D&D had that scene between Jon and Jaime for a reason. Plus Dany would kill Jaime without remotely thinking it through.

Just so Hodor lives and becomes Steward of the North for Jon.

Just saw where they cast Lyanna for next season's show. I guess we are getting the Tower of Joy flashback scene.

We've known that for months pretty much

But Jon is dead. I seen it.
