I think its worth the $2.99 a month especially if you pay for multiple boxes already.

I installed one today at work and almost all channels are in HD now including all the sports channels (ESPN'S. Fox Sports, Cox Sports, & SEC Network) They also have stations on it that were not included before I installed the box like: TV land.

I am going to take away one box I'm paying for ($7.99 a month) in daughters room and get 2 mini boxes for around $6.00 a month!

What is this mini box you speak of?

Sounds interesting for the deck.

If you have a tv connected to a cable directly from the wall you'll need the mini box soon. They're switching over to a 100% digital signal.

I thought if your tv has a built in digital tuner you will be okay?

More money to pay Cox for rentals even if it is just $2.99 per month per box. That adds up quick with multiple televisions. I know the first year for boxes are free. But how much can these things cost to purchase?

We had them in Florida, worth the price. Getting screwed by Charter now as they do not have the little digital boxes.

All the digital channels will be encrypted, hence the need for the box. Your TV's built-in Clear QAM tuner, which can tune the currently unencrypted HD locals, will be rendered completely useless at some point. It's unclear to me whether they will immediately begin to encrypt the locals, but they are now able to do so without breaking FCC regs, which until recently required them to transmit them in the clear.

Sound like one more step in cable pricing itself out of the market.

I fricking hate Cox, but not as much as I fricking hate that they are the only cable provider I can "choose" from in Orleans Parish.

The really sad part is that as terrible as Cox is, it is still infinitely better than the bigger cable companies that most people are stuck with.

They're already in HD for the TV connected directly to the wall. I think the truthful statement will turn out to be,

Your local channels—now encrypted, requiring our box.
