Childhood’s End (Syfy, 8 p.m.) — On night one of Syfy’s three-night mini-series based on Arthur C. Clarke’s futuristic science-fiction novel, aliens show up on Earth’s door with a promise to guide humanity into a new utopia free from suffering but some people just aren’t buying what they’re selling.

Me too, sadly I would have not known about it if it wasn't got Uproxx's daily recap

Wait, what?!

YESSSSS!

Loved this book.

Anyone noticed that District 9 started out very close to Childhood's End with the spaceship chilling for a generation then finally aliens coming down?

Wonder how they will do Karellen?

Read the book in college but don't remember much about it. I know I liked it though.

Thanks, will watch later. Wasn't there supposed to be a Rama film? It fell through IIRC.

Picked the book up at a library sale for a quarter a few years ago. I'm a sucker for sci-fi paperbacks. I'll be interested to see how true to the book they stay.

Yep. Pretty big deviant from the book there at the end. 15 years vs. 50 in the book. It'll be interesting to see where they go from here. I don't see where they can stay true to the psychological aspect of the book after the early reveal. 15 years is way too soon.

I don't remember the aliens being described as looking like that. The show is not being very subtle with its metaphors.

As far as appearance goes they pretty much nailed it according to the book. Although if you want to get technical at the grand reveal he was holding the children in his arms while they played with his wings. He also levitated them up the ramp.

*I cheated and re-read that part.

I read the book over the 15 years ago so this all mostly new to me.

Never read the book. Just watched the first episode and thought it was pretty solid for a SyFy show. Will watch episode 2.
