Some spoilers.

I'm just getting around to watching the movie again - the Extended this time. A couple of things:

1. The extended is much better than the theatrical - but it is still a mess and completely uneven in spots. I just think it takes more viewings to get all those spots straightened out. I'm ready to see a continuation of the story now (much more than before) but still not thrilled.

2. Luther is still a weak link, but on second viewing was not as bas as the first time I watched it - it's just a different version. He is not really an egomaniac like in most versions, here, he is more phychopathic.

3. Maybe I'm late to the party here but does anyone else think the ring is the key to bringing back Superman? It was obviously highly emphasized in the last few frames - would explain the Flash scene in Batman's half-dream (saying Lois is the key) and why the dirt rose from when she threw it on the casket at the end (she was wearing the ring in the hand she used to throw the dirt).

4. Since Clark's showing was open casket, does this mean Clark Kent is dead forever in the movie versions? So, no more alter once he is brought back?

5. Is Lex Luthor in a Batman movie IF the rumors are true and it is set in Arkham? Batman did mention Luthor being transferred there at the end (in another uneven scene placed into the Clark funeral scene).

I just watched the extended bit last night as well.

1. I agree completely. While better, the whole work is still a mess in terms of pacing, plotting and characterization.

2. I was really hoping to see Luthor being influenced by darkseid or something and that leading to his portrayal as a crazed luthor. They could have ditched the batman parents death scene and added something to show how luthor was being affected.

3. Not sure why the ring would cause that. I just took the dirt going up as a precursor to him not being completely dead.

The Martha scene was still just as bad however, and I still can't get over how doomsday is basically the cave troll from fellowship of the ring. There are bits of a good movie in there, but it needed a lot of polishing and more thought.

Maybe the ring is made of something - a crystal or something that helps bring him back. Why even include the ring (and show it in every scene with Lois) in the first place if not to use it for something?

He was traveling up north (possibly to the FoS) in the movie at one point - maybe he has something there. Well, he was there, then, we wasn't there. He was on Lois' balcony, right? Another uneven chain of events in the movie.
