i think its just differences in preferences in terms of writing styles. my favorite series I have ever read is the Dresden Files. I absolutely love Jim Butcher's style and voice. Martin is almost the complete opposite of that.

Okay then. I can't see your viewpoint either because I disagree with everything you typed here. I'm not the guy to try to sway you the other way, but I'm sure there are plenty others on this board that would enjoy trying if you started a thread about it one day.

Fair enough.

I'd honestly rather talk about the popularity of it, that's fascinating. You don't have to sell me on it, I'll probably start it again on a different day, at a different time when those types of characters interest me more.

Skip Mistborn and read The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance by Sanderson. They are the beginnings of his opus, and they are epic and amazing. He should stop fricking about with the other stuff and just write the Stormlight Archive series. 10 books will keep him busy for a LONG time.

Dark Tower is an amazing series with an extremely disappointing ending.

It's a good series that became very uneven in the last few books. And the author commits a narcissistic cardinal sin. But the very end is actually perfect.

ASOIAF is, upon starting the series on 3 separate occasions, one of the most bland books I've ever read.

I've never read a book series that was more exquisitely detailed and emotionally gripping as ASOIAF. Everything about it is flawless, even the fourth book.
