My respect for Bill fricking Murray is pretty fricking high. He's not underrated at least in my book.

I think he is regarded by most as one of the best comedic actors in Hollywood's history. It's not like he's had a brief run, the man has been consistently funny for decades, in a variety of roles.

Bill's always had a problem with roles in my opinion. Not sure who's fault it is. And yeah, he's underrated because of it.

Maybe in the late 90s, but aside from that he's been completely on fire.

Eddie Murphy isn't close. His career is a hollow shell compared to what it once was. Bill actually went from the funny guy to a very respected actor.

What the frick are you talking about. I've heard from multiple people that he is the coolest celebrity ever. My uncle played in a celebrity golf tournament with Bill as his partner and Chevy Chase was the celebrity the hole in front of them, and he said it was the funniest shite he's ever heard with those two smarting off to each other for 3 hours, since Chevy played as slow as possible to piss Bill off. Sure he's a smart arse and will definitely make a smart jab at you, but come on would you want Bill Murray to be anything else? It would be severely disappointing if he wasn't.

Played Blackjack with Ron White about a year ago and he was exactly how he is in his stand-up. If he was a proper man who spoke elegantly and was nice to literally everyone, then I'd lose some respect for him to be honest. Instead he was funny as frick and smarting-off to everyone at the table and everyone was having a good time (except for some fan that tried to get his autograph, and Ron flipped his shite somewhat in hilarious form).

He's known for going up behind people alot, putting his hands over their eyes, and then when you turn around he says "No one is ever going to believe you" and runs off. If you want more proof Bill fricking Murray is the coolest celebrity ever, click on this link: LINK

Not to mention, what other celebrity do you know will not only take a picture with people at the bar, but then drink with them for the entire night.

If you have the balls to approach him in a bar, he will talk with you, as long as you talk with him, and not try to be a star gazer. He is up there with Matthew McConaughey in my book.

(I've met Matt on numerous occasions in Zachary and he is an extremely cool guy to hang out with. Buys all my drinks.)

I still say he played a better Hunter S Thompson than Johnny Depp.

I've always liked Matthew McConaughey and he has always seemed really down to earth. I really wish he would pick better films though since he seems stuck in chick flick hell right now.

Seems he's moving in other directions lately, but you are right. It sucks he got caught up in that genre. We know he can act. He's proven he can.

Can't wait to see the one he's in where he is the hired killer.

No. Bill Murray is the funniest fricker ever. Groundhog Day is in my top 5 favorite movies. Caddyshack is hilarious classic. What about Bob is so damn funny I can hardly watch it without my sides splitting. Ghostbusters is a gut buster; I can't help but watch every time it reruns. Stripes is good too. Bill Murray is the king of comedy.

This is true. If I were asked to put together a list of the great comedic actors, I would not have even considered Bill Murray.

From the movies listed in the OP I have seen Ghostbusters, part of Groundhog Day and I've heard of Caddyshack. I haven't even heard of the other movies. I know Bill Murray more from Zombieland than anything else.

Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey are two bigger comedic actors for my age group. Dave Chappelle was big in high school but I think he's in a bit different category.

+1. I guess those would be considered "old movies" to twentysomethings, but you'd almost have to deliberately avoid having seen them at some point in your life. Your parents must have some old DVD's lying around.

It didn't take much effort. I'm sure the movies listed in the OP were on TV a number of times but when the actor doesn't have drawing power you click right past.

The funny "old" movies (as in movies I don't remember coming to theaters) that we would look forward to seeing on TV and such were: the Waterboy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, any Ace Venture, Wayne's World, Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Hot Shots. There are probably a few more but no Bill Murray movies come to mind.

When Zombieland came out my friends and I had a discussion about why they chose to use Bill Murray's house and gush about him like that. We decided that in real life, Emma Stone had not seen the movies she claimed were so funny.

No offense intended though, just different times.

I don't know if you're aware, but there actually was music recorded before 1989.
