It's terrible. Even watched it a 3rd time to be sure. An embarrassment to the Coens' magnificent body of work.

1. No Country
2. Raising Arizona
3. O'Brother
4. Fargo
5. Miller's Crossing
6. Blood Simple
the other movies

?? The Big Lebowski

Have you seen A Serious Man? It's missing from your list. It's up there with Fargo, IMO. Even better. I have it as 1.

I thought it was the worst Coen Bros movie I've seen and the only one I haven't seen is Ladykillers.

It's easily one of the most overrated movies on this board.

Just to balance things out, I need to chime in here. I think it's extremely funny and is eminently re-watchable.

The dialogue between these quirky characters is just classic Cohen Bros. Every line is potentially worth a belly laugh. The Cohen Bros catalogue is just superb and this movie fits right in with the group.

To hate The Big Lebowski is to hate (or at least under appreciate) the Cohen Bros.

You need to find better women.

I love it. The first time I watched it, I liked it but wasn't crazy about it. The second time, catching things I didn't see the first time around, is what did it for me.

Adding to my almost-obsession is that Lebowskifest was started here in Louisville and is huge here. If you haven't been and you're a big fan you should check one out close to you. Good times.

Agreed. The dialogue makes it. Just like Tarantino movies.

^and he goes on to rave about the movie.

Point being, that this movie is NOT overrated. A poster had to come in here to "balance things out" with a rave review. People love it and people hate it on this board, and even a few are meh/ in the middle. I think the overrated stigma comes from the fact that the "loves" are vocal about it, and most threads turn into a quote competition. Doesn't mean there aren't just as many haters and meh'ers out there.

The tally from this thread:

8 love (hilarious)
5 hate (or did not like)
5 meh

It's overrated within the rest. Dialog is what makes these movies. Some people rave about the Dialog in this one. I hated it. Seemed forced. Like another movie maker was trying to make a Coen movie, and failed.
