Better movie: A League of Their Own or Field of Dreams?

In my opinion both of these movies are about as perfect Americana as you can get. I LOVE both of them. Each have an incredibly high rewatchability factor.
But we must choose the better one.
Both are about the how baseball makes America unique. It represents the best of American society.
ALoTO is nostalgic from beginning to end (which is no surprise because it's a period movie). FoD is at times nostalgic but nothing like ALoT.
FoD is centered around an excellent supernatural mystery. ALoTO has no supernatural mystery to solve.
Both are humorous but ALoTO is easily more funny.
Both have wonderful endings, but FoD really hits you in the feels especially if your father is no longer alive. Don't get me wrong, Dottie facing her younger sister in the World Series is an excellent and emotional ending, but it just cannot match the ending to FoD which makes you wish you could be Ray and have one more moment with your father to simply play catch.
Makes me damn near cry just thinking about it.
Therefore, because of the combination of nostalgic Americana, baseball, hope, and supernatural wonder I must give the edge to Field of Dreams.
But it barely beats out A League of Their Own.

A League of Their Own
It's just an easier watch.

too close to call. Like you said, both are highly re-watchable.

FoD
If not for Hanks I wouldn't remember that one.

Never cared for Field of Dreams. LoTO has the drama of dropping the ball.

Easily Field of Dreams
Off of the top of my head, I remember Ray Kinsella, Archie "Moonlight" Graham, Terrence Mann, if you build it they will come, go the distance, ease his pain, hey dad you wanna have a catch, etc
Don't get me wrong, A League is really good and has peak Geena Davis (and arguably peak Rosie and peak Madonna), but it's still no contest.
Is The Sandlot better than both?

The one where the hero chooses to sacrifice their own dreams and goals for that of another.
I dig that story.
But for real, FoD.

With the two choices I'm going with Field of Dreams but I'm not opposed to Sandlot'a entry into the market

FoD is one of my top 5 movies probably
It's pure Americana - Baseball, rural farm life, political debate, a JD Salinger character

I love ALofO, but Field of Dreams is a classic. This one isn't close. You'll never see me with dry eyes when Ray has the final catch with his father.

Field of Dreams is a better movie...and the ending reasonates as a classic piece of cinema...
But I've probably watched it twice in my lifetime.
I've seen League - often; thanks TBS.
Lovitz cameo, the light-heartedness of the movie; easy to understand; Sunday afternoon movie when you're busy doing other stuff around the house.

Kit knocked the ball out of Dottie's hand

This can really be the only plausible ending if you know the Dottie character and understand sports and how athletes function.
But the ending is so confusing.
First she gives her pitcher the gameplan to strike out Kit...in the most stern way...she mad.
Then she has this - I want to get out of here and go back to Oregon thing with my husband.
Then she smiles after she drops the ball and seems gratified she did the right thing - or gratified she fricked up for her team but for her sister.
Lets face it. The movie portrays Dottie as a hyper-competitive a-hole...and the last thing she does before Kit's hit is to try everything to paraphrase "strike that bitch out"
But then...as Kit hits the ball and is rounding the bases...in that 30 second span, Dottie has a change of heart?
And goes all softie...who in sports has time to reflect and get sentimental? Especially the most competitive player in the entire league.
If Marshall wanted us to think Dottie drops it on purpose...she fricked up with the prelude to the hit. Because dropping it on purpose makes no sense from what comes before. At all!
Unless, like I said, Dottie gets religion in 30 seconds.

League of their own by far. I watched Field for the first time in a long time last year, and it was ok but almost overwhelmingly sentimental. Mawkish.

Yeah Sandlot is better than either, especially for guys like me who love baseball and were the age of the characters when it came out.

The acting of Field of Dreams makes that movie. Burt Lancaster and James Earl Jones in the same movie? That's not even fair.

but i mean " you wanna have a catch?"
