Without a doubt the original. However I will say that even if the sequels are unnecessary, they are textbooks examples of how sequels should be approached: with invention and care.

First one is the best and anyone who says otherwise is not to be trusted

1 is the best, but 2 is my favorite.

It always bothered me that the actress for Jennifer changed in the sequels

the first

what's crazy is how 2 and 3 were made at the same time and how much different the movies are received/liked

i guess 3's gimmick (old west) is just seen as inferior to that of 2's (the future)

The original actress elected not to reprise the role for personal reasons - her mom had developed cancer so she decided to focus on her family for awhile.

Trivia: There's a deleted scene in BTTF2 where Marty bumps into his brother Dave in 1985A where he's a washed up drunk. Because the actress who played the sister Linda was pregnant, she wasn't available, and they decided since they couldn't have both siblings it was better to cut Dave's scene and have neither. She was available for BTTF3 which she can glimpsed in at the very end.

It was not a joke. Zemeckis and Gale go into this story in detail in the commentary track on the 2002 DVD set (which has been ported over to the newer releases). Sheinberg was absolutely serious about the title, and they went to Spielberg in a panic asking what to do. Spielberg responded to Sheinberg's memo reacting to it as if it was a joke, knowing that Sheinberg would be too proud to admit he was serious. Thus the title was saved.

Peter Burns brought this "almost title" up on SEC Now. I think he reads the M/TV board.

It's the first.

#2 was better until it ends and you realize it's a setup for part 3.

#1 because Jennifer Parker was much hotter in that movie. Elisabeth Shue is fine but Claudia Wells was just sexier.

The first one is the best, obviously.

But 2 is one of the best sequels of all time though.

The first by far

The opening sequence alone is classic.

2 is right behind it because they actually went into the future.

The first movie is just classic. Watch the opening scene and tell me you dont get chills:

Not sure how this is up for debate.

Back to the Future was perfect.
