The head of the BBC's moneymaking arm reckons its flagship motoring show will continue to be lucrative even after Jeremy Clarkson and friends' departure. "I still remain confident about the future of 'Top Gear'," said Tim Davie, CEO of BBC Worldwide.

This dude is delusional. The only way it will remain lucrative, aside from the BBC caving in an resigning Hammond, May and Clarkson, is through syndication. Clarkson might be an arrogant arse, but the chemistry between the 3 was what got and kept viewers. That can't be replicated. It'll end up being like Top Gear US. Three boring idiots.

The unspoken fact here is that the show was starting to get a little stale anyway.

Clarkson on the show is a bonus, but I could enjoy it without him.

It won't just be Clarkson that's missing from the show if it continues.

I agree about the studio shows. The specials are what makes me excited.

The thing that made the show work was the fact that all three of them were best friends. Take the leader of the pack away and the other two will just be awkward. And IIRC Hammond and May said if Clarkson goes then they go as well. Which I hope happens. I hope the BBC loses a frick ton of money over this stupid decision.

Yep. Without Clarkson, Hammond and May, the show will flounder. American and Australian Top Gear are horrible.

It wasn't getting stale for me, either. The whole format of it being a car show is brilliant because it means they will always have something new to talk about and test.

Aside from GoT, it's the only show I make a point to watch (it's on right now, actually).
