I watched it the other day on netflix and thought the opposite. it's bad, but its not the steaming pile of garbage people make it out to be.
And it's definitely not worse than Batman and Robin. Holy frick that movie hurts my soul

I liked it. The riddler was a surprisingly cool villan that Carey owned. Kidman in silk sheets. Kilmer was Decent. Awesome soundtrack.
Comparing it to B&R is rediculous.

I like the film, it rides the line of campy and entertaining. Kilmer is a good Batman. It was definitely a sign of things to come though.
I like it a lot more than Edward Batmanhands, err, Batman Returns.

Watched it recently with my son and he loved it.
In 1995 when it came out, I really thought it had a good balance. Batman Returns seemed way too dark at the time and was a big depressing, Burton hated Penguin mess.
The 1966 show was being played to death in syndication, and there was a genuine desire to get some of that back I think. Also, parents didn't want to take their kids to another dark journey. So, TLJ was brought in to replace Billy Dee Williams, and hot property Jim Carey was given the Riddler role.
WB told Buton to take a hike, Keaton wouldn't return without Burton, and Nicole Kidman replaced Rene Russo when VK was hired. That absolutely changed the Batman-Robin dynamic that would have existed with Keaton in the lead as well.
For its time, it was a refreshing pace, but it hasn't aged well at all. It's a near over the top gay ole time, and provides "joygasms" that aren't as satisfying anymore.
The Dark Knight shouldn't have a light bright car for a Batmobile, he wouldn't just stand up in a crowd and start screaming he's Batman, and no way does a vault go right back into place with a deaf guy riding it like that.
By today's standards, this is a relic of the mid-90s, one that can't be appreciated like it was when Color Me Badd was at the top of the charts because we don't live in that world any longer. Worse yet, unlike Batman '66, it doesn't even capture the feeling of the day or the generation. It's not a time capsule, it's mostly a waste of time.

I remember being a kid ~13 or so. And my brother and his friend claimed that the title of Batman 4 was going to be Batman...Returns...Forever

I can dig some Batman Forever. I liked Carrey and thought he was great. Kilmer was solid as well. And like people mentioned, Kidman was looking FOINE.
I like it because it's overly cheesy and doesn't take itself seriously.
I personally think Batman and Robin gets shite on a little too much. It wasn't very good, but it sort of wasn't supposed to be. Each of the original Batman movies got more and more cheesy and cartoonish than the one before it.
Sure, B&R had a Batman credit card, but it's really not much more ridiculous than some of the shite in others. shite, Batman Returns (which gets praised generally) had a fricking fat midget riding around on a giant fricking bathtub duck toy car and penguins with rockets strapped to their fricking backs.
How is this:
...more ridiculous than these:
???
Simple....it's not.

TLJ and Jim Carrey trying to over act one another.
Those actors could have been GREAT bad guys if the movie wasn't so cartoonish. Meaning, if it was a grittier, darker version they could have shined.
And I didn't think that Kilmer was bad as Batman. Again, the director of the early Batman films missed the mark, outside of the Batman with Jack Nickelson

YES! That song brings back memories.
And if I recall correctly, U2 also made a decent song for one of those Batman movies.

I was 10 or 11 when batman and Robin came out. I loved everything about that movie at the time. Every villain especially. Can't tell you how many times I watched it on vhs.
It's been probably 10 years since I watched. And I'd probably give it another shot just for throwback memoris. But last time I watched it I remember thinking good lord this is bad. And I still had crappy taste in movies at *18 for the most part.
I really hate Chris O'Donnell, so rewatching it would be tuff for the most part just bc of him. That motorcycle race tho.
*18-19 is when my taste in movies drastically improved. My brother left Godfather 1&2 on DVD at my grandma's house and one day after school I popped it in and was blown away by the end of it. The next day I run in the house and put 2 in and liked it even more. From then on I moved on from fast and furious and tried to watch every critically acclaimed movie I could. I hate critics for the most part now though. Cool story.

I'm not saying it's great, just that it gets too much hate IMO. But it was overly cartoonish...basically a live action cartoon. So of course Two Face's apartment is gonna be split just like he is, with matching women and everything. It was supposed to be overly ridiculous.
The plot is stupid, sure...but again, it fits into the whole cartoonish angle. I mean shite, look at The Riddler's movements (overly accenuated) and just about every line that came out of his mouth. It feels like it's all done sort of tongue in cheek.
I mean, come on..."It's so you...and it's so YOOOOOUUUUUU!" That shite is hilarious because it's so ridiculous.

....An island! A fricking island!
Also, Batman Forever loses points for having their evil plot executed much better by those evil floating brains on Futurama.

I disagree. The movie is an abomination of the franchise. Batman and Robin nearly killed it.
