Do you have to be familiar with the original trilogy in order to "get" this series? While I've seen and enjoyed them all it's been quite some time. TIA!

No. Its just Ash and friends fighting monsters. Good show too.

Actually, just watch Evil Dead II - it is pretty much based on that.

The third movie is kinda off limits to this series.

The rights issue that kept Army of Darkness from being referenced in Season 1 isn't an issue any longer according to the show's producer. He said at Comic Con that Ash will talk about what happened in the third film in Season 2

No, it's been years since I've seen any of the Evil Dead movies and I really enjoyed it.

Not really unless you want to read into it that it's ashs fault all the evil is here because he can't recite a quote correctly.

Army of Darkness is still the best out of the 3.

I liked the remake they did of the Evil Dead. Very dark and disturbing.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the first three just fine. Bruce Campbell is one of my favorite actors. I especially liked his work in Burn Notice as Sam Axe.
