ETA: Just listened to it. Dude sounds bitter as hell because Stern wouldn't play a commercial for his (Lange's) book. Boo hoo. Why is he so mad that Stern's show has changed? He's making his money. Like Stern cares what Lange thinks.

I love Artie but Howard kept Artie on the staff when he was nodding out on heroin and snoring ON AIR. He turned it into a funny bit a few times leaving the mic on and doing the news with Artie snoring but come on.
Howard stuck with Artie way longer than anyone else would have. When he finally cut him lose (or Artie "quit) that chapter was closed. It's a lot like the Jackie situation. Howard didn't let Jackie near the studio till at least 15 years after he quit. And when he brought him back it was just for a shitty Jokeman hour long show, not on the actual show.
Artie just needs to move on.
Howard is pushing 60 years old. A-listers have accepted him into their circle. He was always going to change when he got this old. He is more relevant than ever.

Howard is 62-63 years old. He is tired of sybian rides and porn stars. He has done that for decades. I think he wants to ride out his career with a few solid interviews and mail it in the rest (wack pack days).

Had to look it up, he's 62. He almost didn't resign this time and this is probably his last contract. He's definitely on cruise control right now. He's earned it. He can't be the renegade foul mouthed sexed up radio guy at 65 years old. I mean cmon.
I just wish he would have went out before it got to this. Howard having Ellen on and kissing her arse made me sad.

At this point in their respective public lives, I think Donald Trump would be a more outrageous host than Howard Stern.

I can understand that. Years ago seeing Letterman start kissing celebrity arse (when he moved from 11:30 to 10:30) was really sad. DL and Stern changed media by saying things other people wouldn't say - especially about the coddled celebrity population.

In the middle of that Artie told a story about Kathy Griffin being in studio and at the time he was high on herion and dozed off during her interview and the sound of him snoring overtook her emotional story...then he wedged in there "by the way I made $950,000 that year"
That pretty much sums up Artie Lange's last 4 years on the show. Coming in an hour late, sleeping during the show, never prepared, snapping at Howard when Howard offered him help(anybody remember this?), not showing up to work at all...all while being paid a million bucks a year and getting free advertising for his stand-up
