Interstellar meets Tree of Life.

An alien flick that turns into a themed art movie 3.5 stars.

I set the bar too high, it was just better than average.

It was good, not great. Im glad I saw it, but not in a rush to see it again. It was just SO slow.

Doesn't have much in common with either of these. Maybe a little Tree of Life.

It was not great. Not bad. But not great. A movie that thought it was much more intelligent than what it actually was.

I'll go one further...It was an absolutely terrible film. One of the worst I have ever seen in my 32 years of existence. There I was, an hour in, just waiting and praying something big would finally happen to change my opinion. Then 50 minutes later, there I was, scratching my head and wondering why in the hell I had just wasted my night watching that. Ridiculous movie from start to end. A .250 out of 10.

i wasn't a big fan of the ending scene/scenes, but it was interesting and worth a watch.

The language aspects were interesting to me and it handled the arrival of aliens theme differently than I had seen before so I enjoyed it. A better ending would have made it a really good flick - it also posed an interesting question about what you would do if you ,knew the future re- her daughter.

If that's one of the worst movies he's ever seen, he's either dim-witted or hasn't seen but a handful of movies.

ETA: Or he's strictly a "boom boom explosion car chase catchphrase" kind of guy.

Sorry, didn't know you directed the movie. Apologies for disrespecting something you're so passionate about. Of course all of your opinions are final say, and what would your post be without the typical tough guy aspect. Nice take. I'm sure the geriatrics on this board will love it.

Arrival was an amazing film, and by far my favorite movie of last year. The way it gets into the messiness of communication and translation was fascinating, and at the movie's core, there is a moral choice for which the movie doesn't really take a side, giving voice to both sides of the argument. I think she's right to have a child knowing what will happen, but wrong to not tell her husband of what was going to happen, robbing him of the choice.

It's also a beautifully shot film, and the scenes on first contact are genuinely terrifying. It does a great job of showing how scary the unknown is.

This seems to describe a lot of contemporary opinions on movies. People need a shootout or sex scene every 10 minutes or the movie was "slow and boring".

Like most here, I thought it was decent. Not great but I didn't think it was terrible.
