It has already aired in parts of Europe and it's out there on streaming sites. Supposedly there are no subtitles for some Italian language scenes. How much of the series does this comprise of? What were your thoughts in general?

I think it sounds like some anti-Catholic propaganda.

If this were an anti-Muslim or anti-Jewish show the person who made it would be locked up, sued, or killed.

But It's cool since it's a show about Christianity.

The Catholics never can handle anything that might depict them in a less than flattering light.

Nah, I'm just waiting for a few decades worth of tv shows and movies about corrupt rabbis or imams.

Big fan of Spotlight here. I thought it was well done and honest. A fictional story about an arrogant and young American pope is just stupid and frankly unrealistic.

But when you aren't worried about depicting reality, you can do whatever you want.

Is the Young Pope not a fictional story?

The arts are persuasive. And people will believe any bullshite they see, even in a fictional work. "Oh, that must be based on truth. I bet all traditional priests are arrogant pricks just looking out for themselves."

Fact is that the media hates the Catholic Church. And obviously there have been some terrible things that have gone on in the Church. And I, as a Catholic, am very grateful that the media helped uncover those evils. But it is well known that the same media who loves to bring up the pedophilia scandal completely ignores all of the terrible shite going on in Hollywood right now. Total hypocrites.

It's HBO

Of course it's going to bash Catholicism... That's what they do.

Yeah. Catholics are always bombing newspapers, suing directors, black balling actors, commiting terrorism, etc... Over stupid anti-catholic rhetoric. Dumbass Catholics.

Which is why "Spotlight" made them extremely uncomfortable.

Catholicism makes for a good tv show bc they're the branch of Christianity that has the most drama, the most history. They had intrigue, scandal, powerful men, wealth, conspired with and against some of the greatest minds in all of history.

There are shows where Muslims are terrorists all the time. No one wants to go inside the Muslim religion though. That would be a terrible show. Judaism is too niche, but also it doesn't have a hierarchical system set up like the Catholic Church does that would allow for this plot device. Again for all the bashing SJW get for getting offended at every little thing, some posters here sure do get offended at very very slight negative portrayals of things they believe in

I seem to remember us all raving about Spotlight without too much handwringing. Some of us Catholics even recommended it.
