My opinion appears to be different than most of those who made the transition. This is my first year as a maester, having read all 5 books in the off-season, and I can genuinely say I'm less interested in the show now. I know what's going to happen, so I'm constantly fiddling with my ipad or reading a new book during the show.
I only really pay attention when I can tell something is new or different from the books.

I didn't start reading the books until after the first season. For me it's enhanced the show and has also enhanced the books. I was going to attempt to read the books as the show progressed, but I couldn't put them down so I knocked them out back to back. As well as the Dunk and Egg novellas that accompany the book series.
And to be honest, the show is starting to get away from the source material some so there's been things that have been pleasant changes from the book. Lots of little Easter Eggs in there too for book readers.
I will also tell you they've moved some storylines around so it doesn't exactly follow the books chronologically. There's some later book material sprinkled in with the current book they're following for the most part.

That sucks. Seems for the overwhelming majority reading the books works out well for them so I'm undeterred.
As long as Dinklige is around I know I'll still be glued to the tv watching him put on the greatest acting performance oF ALL TIME. (imo)
