If I remember right there were a couple on here who were big Blood Song fans. Just got the notice the third book is available today, and I got a 5 hour flight this afternoon.

HELL YEA!

Sweet!

I loved the first one. The second was good, but not great. I'm really hoping the third brings back the magic.

Thanks for the heads up!

My buddy reread Tower Lord last week and has cleared his schedule today to do nothing but binge Queen of Fire.

Yea Blood Song is one of the GOATs for me. Tower Lord was good, but it was just missing something. I reread it so I'm all ready to go though!

Spoilers notification please for any who finish first!

I read Blood Song about a year ago. I'm about halfway through Tower Lord. I didn't realize the newest book is out already. I'll have to pick it up to read during my vacation at the end of the month

I'm a fan. I'm in the middle of reading something else, so I will have to wait a couple of days to pick this one up, but I'm looking forward to it.

I'm almost finished with Tower Lord. I can hardly focus on work. This shite is addictive. My friend has almost completed Queen of Fire and is yelling at me because he can't talk about it yet. I had completely forgotten how engrossing these books are.

Started Blood Song after reading this thread. I'm about 3/4 of the way through and this book is tremendous. I resent every minute I can't spend reading.

It's terrible. I am posting on TD so that I can take a break from reading so that maybe, maybe I can do some actual work.

Blood Song is absolutely amazing. Tower Lord isn't quite as good, but to me, its still very good.

I look forward to Queen of Fire, just haven't finished the book I'm reading now yet.

I don't know, man. It's been a couple years since I read Blood Song, but Tower Lord, once it gets going, is unbe-goddamn-lievable. The whole book is filled with palpable tension, the characters are interesting (especially Reva), and the plot is breakneck. I am absolutely enthralled and I've already read the damn thing and know what's going to happen.

I really like Reva as well. I'm in the crew that Blood Song is on a different level than Tower Lord (it's on the list of 1-3 books that are fantasy GOAT for me), but Tower Lord is still really good. It takes a while to get going, but it is awesome once it does.

I also really liked Reva, but my girlfriend HATED her story. She almost stopped reading because of it. So far the 3rd book is starting off slower than all of them. I'll give him room, but so far it's a bit slow.

Anyone finish the third book?

All I got to say is whatever fvcker kidnapped Ryan and wrote the last two books needs to be publicly tortured. I legit have no clue how the same person could write the masterpiece that is Blood Song and follow it with that shite.

FVCK!

Gotta disagree with you here. I thought Tower Lord was extremely well done and Queen of Fire was really good, but felt a little rushed to conclusion. It almost felt like the multiple story arcs nearly got away from him, but he managed to tie it all up nicely while still leaving it open for more.

Yeah I thought Tower Lord was excellent. Queen of Fire took too long to find its feet and then wrapped up too quickly. Felt like there was another book in there somewhere or he needed to engage in massive cuts. But it was still a pretty damn good conclusion to a wonderful debut trilogy.

Several problems as a whole though:

*****SPOILERS*****

the mythology wasn't explored enough. I still have little clue as to who the Ally is, who the Wolf is, etc. That was all convoluted as hell to me.

What the hell happened to Sharon?

Still debating if I liked the story essentially being a history written by Verniers such that there is no real closure after the war as to these characters. They all go off their own ways and that's it. Left it pretty open for a return to the world if so desired.

LoveThatMoney,

***Spoilers***

Agree about too many loose ends. I have no clue what the Ally is. I also felt the wolf link was totally unfulfilled.

Hell I thought the biggest hole was with the witch chick who was in love with Frentis. Who the fvck was that?!?! Was the whole "beloved" thing connected to the Ally or was that just something random? I never had a clue how she connected to anything.

Too many side characters by the end of this trilogy. Hell in the end it also felt like Vaelin and Frentiss were side characters. I wish they would have focused more on those two and Caenis. I didn't give a fvck about most of the new folks.

I was really disappointed by the third book; even more so after I heard that this will only be a trilogy. Too many dangling plot lines.

****Spoilers****

So when they bring the Ally to the black stone, he states that he saw something in the Beyond that was terrifying. After I finished the book, I thought "Oh, well this terrifying thing in the Beyond will be the next books enemy. And Maybe Vaelin will get his Song back." I guess I can forget about that ever happening.

First book, Blood Song, was outstanding. I read it and Lies of Locke Lamora at the same time, and I thought they were on par with each other.

Second book was ok, but kind of meh.

Third book was kind of a disaster. I found myself not really caring about the characters or their motivations. And the above mentioned loose ends really annoyed me.
