Kenya Barris, the creator of ABC’s acclaimed comedy Black-ish, is teaming up with Los Angeles Clippers player Blake Griffin and Ryan Kalil of the NFL's Carolina Panthers to develop a remake of the 1992 sports comedy for Twentieth Century Fox.
Barris will write the script for the project, which falls under his overall film deal with Fox that he signed in September 2016. Barris also will act as a producer.
Griffin and Kalil are producing via their production banner, Mortal Media, along with their partner Noah Weinstein.

I'll take "What is a terrible idea?" for $1000, Alex.

For the love of God, why?

I don't see a problem with this.

I'm guessing this has Jonah Hill and Kevin Hart written all over it.

Uh...it was a WAY different time back in 1992.
As...Cedrick Maxwell said in that Bird/Magic documentary...most black guys didn't think you could find a white player that could hang with a black player, hell - half thought Larry Bird was overrated.
I don't think the joke set-ups in the movie would work today if its going to revolve around basketball. With all the Euros in the NBA, I don't think every black playground player is going to see every white basketball player as a sucker.
Too much of the story just revolves around Woody being a dork and people assuming he stinks because he's white.

What an exciting idea for a movie

That's why The Bad News Bears remake was a total flop.
You can't go back to a place and time and have kids making fun of minorities.
So they had to change all of the subversive humor and it stunk.

I could see Kevin Hart playing the guy that wants to go to Sizzler, but Wesley Snipes wasn't a comedian. I think you need an ex NBA type player in that role. The white guy role needs to have the more comedic background. Maybe a Seth Rogen or Owen Wilson type.
The real question is who will play...

I see it being reversed. The white guy is a baller and is respected and Kevin Hart is the joke that is actually a baller.
2017! Maybe make the white guy transgender.

I'm ready to see them make Black Men Can't Swim where a white and black guy team up to take on the competitive underground swimming league.

Starring Michael Phelps and Leslie Jones

Seth Rogen couldn't pull off being a respectable basketball player. It was damn near impossible for them to do it with Woody.

Starring Idris Elba and Daniel Day Lewis.
