Isn't this the movie about the sniper guy that claimed to have been on top of the super dome after Katrina sniping outlaws?

Yes. He also claims to have been involved in a ridiculously movie-style incident at a gas station. There is no evidence whatsoever that this incident ever occurred. Also, he is the one who claimed to have knocked out Jesse Ventura at a bar (a court found that he defamed Ventura with this prevarication). I read the book. And while I salute his years of service (IMO, he did way too many tours when he could have been at home with his family), I have no interest in the continued lionization of the military with films such as this.

Seen it posted before that Kyle was a pretty big liar and full of shite big time.

Anyways, I am sure the movie will be entertaining at least. Everyone likes watching Hajis getting taken out.

And his claim that there were posters around Iraq with his name and a bounty on it like he was damn Han Solo.

Just watched Sniper (friend works for an agency in LA and her boss gets the screeners and she brought some home). Clint did his thing again. Pretty badass. Very entertaining. Bradley Cooper is awesome in it.

I know a guy who was a contractor in Afghanistan and he said that there were contracts out on all of them. Their names weren't on posters but it was common knowledge.

The previews look so intense. Cooper's southern accent actually sounds really good too. I can't help but wonder why David O'Russell who was going to direct in early stages all the sudden backed out.. Then Spielberg was going to direct but all the sudden backed out in pre-production.. Eastwood finally took over at the last minute.. Makes me wonder what they didn't like about it and why they both backed out after meeting with producers.

this info is on IMDBpro.. might be on regular IMDB somewhere too if you wanna check it out.

Is he dead or something?

People talking about him in past tense.

And, the military was returning fire on people in New Orleans after Katrina. I know that for a fact.

These Navy SEALs are total badasses. These are the last people you wanna f*ck with. The training they have to go through is just insane.

If you haven't seen the mini series Discovery did some years back on their hell week go find it and watch it. BUDs training. They actually use this footage in the opening to Lone Survivor.

I have also heard that the movie is quality and Bradley Cooper's performance is good enough for an Oscar look.

People are bashing a guy who obviously lied about many of his exploits.

Sniping ppl from the top of the superdome

Oh and this gem

quote:

In a profile of Kyle in its April issue, Dallas-based D Magazine recounts the tale of Kyle allegedly shooting and killing two armed men who tried to rob him and steal his truck at a gas station in 2010. The article concludes that even though a gas station's surveillance camera recorded the alleged incident, no proof has surfaced that it happened. "I spent a lot of time looking for this video, talking to various police stations and everything was sealed up," profile author Michael Mooney said in an interview. "I didn't find any police reports, no coroner reports, nobody that could confirm that it happened in their jurisdiction."

quote:

Luttrell wrote that Kyle had stopped at a gas station near Dallas and was filling up his truck when two men -- each with a pistol -- approached him and demanded his vehicle. Kyle sized them up and told them he had to reach into his truck to get the keys, Luttrell wrote. Mooney's piece in D Magazine describes what Kyle reportedly did next: "He turned around and reached under his winter coat instead, into his waistband. With his right hand, he grabbed his Colt 1911. He fired two shots under his left armpit, hitting the first man twice in the chest. Then he turned slightly and fired two more times, hitting the second man twice in the chest. Both men fell dead. "Kyle leaned on his truck and waited for the police." Mooney has written that Kyle told him the incident was true. Kyle claimed that it was caught on the gas station's surveillance video, and that when police arrived, he gave them a phone number to call, although he wouldn't say who the number belonged to. Mooney wrote that Kyle told him the officers called the number, "were very understanding" and let him go. Luttrell wrote that the incident "never made the news, since the town involved didn't want the publicity."

quote:

But Mooney and other reporters have been unable to corroborate the story. Mooney pinpointed the approximate locale, at a gas station near Cleburne on U.S. 67 south of Dallas, but local officials up and down the highway told him they'd never heard of the incident. Mooney said he's been unable to find any police reports or any other records indicating the incident or anything similar took place.
