I end up watching this once a year or so. Still one of the all time best action/sci-fi movies, the extended cut also adds a lot

What's in the extended cut? I don't think I've ever seen that.

I don't care for the extra footage in the extended cut, myself.

Yeah, I never saw it as a Sci-Fi movie like Alien.

It's shot like a Vietnam War movie.

Even with the military (congressmen) Paul Reiser - sabotaging their own soldiers like in real life for profit.

This isn't new...many people have said it's a Vietnam allegory. The original settlement in Aliens were the French, got wiped out, Americans came in...Aliens are communists because they're alien to Americans. We go in, without any real plan and get sabotaged.

I don't know if it is, but it's certainly filmed as a War movie and not a Sci-Fi flick.

Yep, he said that's what he set out to do, but he said he didn't know anything about what real marines were like in Vietnam and has since said it was a mistake to make them marines in Aliens.

If you ever want an interesting commentary, Cameron's for Aliens is pretty great. You get an insight into who he really is. Someone who can be absolutely brilliant but seriously arrogant to the point of it being a problem.

After listening to Cameron drone on about titanic I can't listen to him with the same respect. I love aliens though.

Worth it for the sentries alone. The LV-246 colony scenes were good also.

I like the first 3 Alien movies. I also enjoyed Prometheus. Can't wait for the sequel to that.

The Aliens Directos Commentary is absolutely worth the watch and provides so much more context, back story, and character development for Ripley.

Spoilers:

We learn that Ripley had a daughter who died before Ripley ever got a chance to get back to earth. It makes the scenes between Ripley an newt so much more meaningful as you see Ripley confronting motherhood again.

One of my favorite of all time...

Hudson: I'm ready, man, check it out. I am the ultimate badass! State of the badass art! You do NOT wanna frick with me. Check it out! Hey Ripley, don't worry. Me and my squad of ultimate badasses will protect you! Check it out! Independently targeting particle beam phalanx. Vwap! Fry half a city with this puppy. We got tactical smart missiles, phase-plasma pulse rifles, RPGs, we got sonic electronic ball breakers! We got nukes, we got knives, sharp sticks...
Apone: Knock it off, Hudson. All right, gear up.
