I'm talking about quality, not quantity. Our best visual artists are moving to TV to tell their stories. TV is telling better stories than film is, and I don't think that trend is going to reverse itself. I don't care about the money aspect of the business, as I am not an investor. I care about the art, because I am a patron.

We disagree about this

I mean I agree, sort of. I look at it like short stories vs. Novels. Both have their place, and an amazing short story can be more effective than a full novel.

But I think you're right in that many of the artists are leaving the medium for TV. We just need new artists for film.

I also think Money has the right idea. It's about having people you disagree with on and having interesting discussions. The Freaux and Baloo Hour would be pretty boring, as we would just agree about everything.

The Wire and how it relates to the riots in Baltimore would be a good first show.

Don't forget there is also the concomitant drop in production costs due to improvements in and cost deduction of digital media, which allows TV to have a bigger budget and wider subject matter as a side-effect.

That's why I think the real artists are those just starting out or like Ed Burns who can slap together a good movie for $100,000 or less. If you are a person with vision and the ability to direct, you can do so now with a RED camera for 30 Gs and some entrepreneurial acumen.
