Not surprised. I met someone who got braces recently who has almost no income get their kid braces.

It was the 1940's, shite was cheap. Plus you don't know if he was white trash or a kid ignored by his father whose career demanded 60-80 hours per week.

And braces in the 1940's would most likely have been still made from gold because it was malleable.

Stainless steel didn't become popular until the late 1950's.

So Farkus, if he was white trash, wouldn't have had braces - his family couldn't have afforded to put a year's salary of gold in his mouth.

His mother died during childbirth leaving him alone with his father who worked an ungodly amount of hours at the local mill to house and feed his crappy son who was left up to his own devices most of the time turning him into the shite he is.
