no, I think he's just quiet. At least Amy is trying to lose weight (for the most part). Tammy just plain doesn't care if she dies.

ETA: Never mind Amy’s the slimmer one

Probably because Jerry’s never seen an episode of My 600 Lb Life, leaving him blissfully unaware of what life with a 644 lb woman is actually like .

If he has any sense, he’ll drop that bag of candy on Tammy’s nightstand as a parting gift and GTFO.

Has the board given up on my 600 lb life? I've thought about creating a thread for this season but haven't. . Last season sucked but this one has been better.

Actually im curious why people get that big, and if always turns out to be some traumatic event that goes unresolved. And the person uses food as a coping mechanism

That’s not enabling

It is a shame spiral some people get into. Something bad happens in their life, they turn to food for comfort, they hate their appearance, the shame further spirals, and they eat more. As Fat Bastard says, it's a vicious cycle.

The enabling comes in when these people become shut-ins incapable of working or caring for themselves, so their caregivers (usually parents) take care of them for then on.

The enabling occurs because the parents somehow convince themselves that all the faults in their children's lives resulted from bad parenting (which may or may not be the case) so they blame themselves and result in over-indulging their children's desires to somehow make up for the perceived faults of their parenting.

I mean some bad parenting probably did occur, especially if the parents taught their kids to eat comfort food by their own example.

But, on the other hand, sometimes these parents overly blame themselves for things that occur in any household.

They should be like "Son, I know we yelled and screamed a lot when you were a kid. We apologize. But son, you're 400 pounds overweight. We ain't buying you no more personal pizzas. Here's a tuna sandwich, some grapes, and a glass of water. I'll come back in 12 hour with an apple and another glass of water. In the meantime, clean up your room or I swear to God, I'm kicking you out on the street."

They've had some bad cases this season. I think only 1 or 2 of the 5 I've seen so far where they actually get the surgery.

Last season was terrible. I don't recall anyone actually getting the surgery. I think last season was the one that had the lady in Ohio, or somewhere, that kept losing her paper copies of the diet and she was a afraid to call back and get a copy. We were more interested in this season and how the pandemic impacted their plans. I think more people have done better this season already than last season combined.
