"How high-priced travel ball is excluding poor blacks from the MLB"

quote:

The way the system is set up,” Stewart said, “if you’re a black kid, you’re crazy for trying to play baseball.”

quote:

There needs to be a real discussion,” L.E.A.D.’s Stewart said. “You can’t keep saying black kids don’t want to play baseball. That’s crazy. Just come out and say you don’t know how to develop them. The good news for Major League Baseball is that black people haven’t gotten to a level of offense yet to make something happen”

what a fricking joke. Just poor black people, no other races. Everyone is against the poor black kids.

Police, banks, schools, credit, travel ball, white Hispanics

It's amazing black folk can walk down the street unaccosted with all the enemies they have.

Funny how poor black kids from the Dominican Republic can make it to the majors. And poor black kids from the US can make it to the NFL and NBA.

And one day last summer, driving home from a tournament, his son asked, “Dad, do you think I’ll ever get to play with any black dudes?”

Maybe not in college, Darren, where the dugouts look like frat row at an SEC school.

that's so hilariously sad

ESPN is really awful anymore, top to bottom. I rarely watch anything except ball games on there.

yeah well we're a state that actually has black people and a black middle class

this article was written for white people who don't live around black people and basically never interact with them

This is bull shite. If you are good enough, they will find a way to get you to practices and games. Provide uniforms and waive the fee. But you better be good

Stricter NCAA academic standards set to begin in the fall could further erode the meager percentage of black college baseball players. C.J. Stewart, a former minor-league player who runs the L.E.A.D. Academy in Atlanta for inner-city youth and high school baseball players, said higher admission standards and a loss of scholarships for poor academic progress ratings (APR) could drop the percentage of African-American players in Division I baseball to 1 percent within five years.

“It’s not even intentional, but it’s institutionalized racism. It’s crazy to ask a college coach to recruit a black kid with new requirements for APR. You lose scholarships if kids don’t perform in the classroom.

That's disproportionately white. You should have had 4 out of 14 if you were in Louisiana.

Yeah, frick the real reason for kids going to college.

Let's downgrade the requirements so a moron can further degrade the value of a bachelors degree while playing a NON-REVENUE sport.

Unbelievable doesn't even begin to describe this article.

CJ Stewart was my private hitting coach for a couple years, great guy but charged a shitload of money per hour. We had a few all black travel teams around Atlanta, and all the really good players got recruited to come play with the top teams at the complex I played out of... They got all there shite paid for and taken care of by the teams... Those all black teams still came to all the pro/college showcases and played just like we did though, and they were made up of super poor kids (even the poorer white travel teams came too)

If you are good enough you will have an opportunity, no matter how poor your family is

ESPN continues to get more and more committed to the SJW cause every week. It's time we find a different sports news outlet.
