Oh well, it is the Yankees. They got money for days. Just makes it that much more pleasurable for me to see them lose.

It's a good price compared to what Sandoval got, but Headley is still milking that MVP type season from a few years back. He hasn't come close to touching those numbers since.

If you're the Yankees, your team is chock full of old players on bad contracts, so one more wont kill you I guess

Compared to the prices being paid this winter, this seems fairly cheap.

But Headley's isnt.

Headley has been above league average in OPS+ each of the last 4 seasons. Over the last 3 seasons the only 3B with a higher WAR than Headley are Beltre, Donaldson, and Wright (Miggy as well, even with his move to 1B). That's higher than Evan Longoria, Matt Carpenter, Kyle Seager, etc.

Above average offense and EXCELLENT defense. That's probably a bargain for $13M in today's market.

FWIW Fangraphs has his value over the last 5 seasons:

2010 - $17.6M
2011 - $10.5M
2012 - $32.2M
2013 - $18.0M
2014 - $24.1M

Boston paid market value for a player they needed. The Sox are abundant in outfielders, 2nd base/SS, catcher, and relief pitching, but they had very little options for the hot corners.
