Would it make more logical sense for betting lines to be decided at end of regulation?

Stemming for the army/navy game hitting the over for the first time in 17 years

They only hit the over after going to OT. When you bet on spreads or over/under, you are betting on what you think will happen in 60 minutes of football or any other sports allotted time etc

If you get on a dog that is +5, and they go to OT, it seems so illogical you could then lose that bet.

It’s not really a “fair” thing, because it screws over and helps people depending on which side of the bet you are on. But would make more logical sense for the bet to end at regulation

But it really isn’t from a betting standpoint

When you take a dog, the thought is “I think they are closer to that team than X points”. So if they tie them in regulation, they clearly were closer than the spread

But now they go line up at the 25 yard lines and and can then null that winning bet, or make someone a winner who took the favorite. Just doesn’t make sense to me

Some of the soccer bets are like that. I put money on a Euro Cup game thinking I got extra time, but not PKs, but I had it wrong. It was 90 mins. I noticed most of the World Cup knockout games were winner over regulation/extra time/PKs.

Yeah, losing a football or basketball game in OT is rough.

Yes when I lose. No when I win

That’s why it isn’t a “fair/unfair” argument. It evens out over a time. It’s a logic argument

Nobody thinks, “Hmm, I like that dog plus 3. But what if they tie the game and go to OT and then blow it?” It’s stupid to include OT

I feel like OT has helped me more than it’s hurt me over the years. But I’m not a big under guy because I hate pulling for teams to not score.

Take the game we are referencing. The over was 32.5

The teams scored 20 in regulation. If you took the under you were 100% correct in your assessment of the game at hand, then still lost the bet because of OT

Makes no sense.

You took the Under didn’t you?

I know this because I had the over and totally disagree with you!

You could be basing your bet on the game going to OT though.

The possibility of OT is built into the odds. There’s maybe a 5% chance that any given FB game goes to OT, so I’m sure there’s an adjustment to the total to account for that possibility.

No that’s why soccer bets are bullshite, they don’t count ET.

Makes sense to me

Individual player bets counting OT is more egregiously illogical

Agreed, especially for college games just because of how unique the overtime rules are. It’s not as big of a deal in the NFL, and the Army/Navy game still would’ve gone under with those overtime rules.

Yeh they needed an additional 12.5 points to cover the over It makes zero sense that can happen

You sound like a whiney B.

It’s like hitting a 0/00 - house always needs the advantage. If you don’t like it, don’t gamble.

It doesn’t give the house an advantage either way though…..

I say it is fine the way it is. It is a gamble and that outcome (the ot) is one of those things that should be calculated in. In my mind the teams were so equal it is going to be a low scoring tie game probably decided in ot that may push it to the over.
I was not aware of the soccer or not counting but I think they should count that also. Possibly count the penalty kicks as a 1 point proposition going to the winning team.
Game score 1–1 after regulation. 2-1 after penalty kicks to the penalty kick winner.
