Despite star DeMarcus Cousins missing past nine games, Malone didn't meet win-loss expectations of ownership, sources tell Yahoo.

Michael Malone is being told he's been fired as we speak, I'm told. Kings parting ways w/ him, it seems, because of expectations not met.

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
GM Pete D'Alessandro hadn't hired Malone, and had never been strong bond between them. Still, ownership's expectations are unrealistic.

Ouch. They got off to a good start, but it's the West and Cousins has been out a few games. Harsh.

No incident, from what I'm told, just no patience for a group that was doing good things but had lost its centerpiece (Cousins)since Nov. 26

Yeah...what the hell did they seriously expect? SAC was not a playoff team before the season, and still arent now. Kings ownership is lost.

Not shocked, this is the same owner who wanted his team to play 4 on 5 on defense and have one guy Cherry pick.

At first, it seems like a good strategy.

I've recently decided that people are too quick to label coaches bad. Like players, many take years to develop. Kevin McHale is in his 6th NBA season (2 weren't full seasons in Minny), and he is finally getting the hang of it. If a coach peaks and the team can't get over a certain hump in the playoffs, that's one thing. But I think it's good for a coach to be able to grow with an under the radar team.

I concur.

Problem is, fear of long-term doldrums and the desire for instant gratification drive folks to label coaches quickly.

Well, they took Stauskus over Payton, when Darren Collison was their point guard. And they had drafted a shooting guard the year before.

That's about all you need to go.

And unfortunately, three of the best coaches ever had instant success: Phil, Riley, and Pop.

It's just weird that nobody ever even considers that a coach can improve. Look at Nick Saban in college, and Belichick in the NFL.
