Wladimir Klitschko retires from boxing

The two-time former champion, who held the unified title from 2006-2015 before losing to Joshua's fellow Briton Tyson Fury, ends his career with a record of 64 wins and five defeats. "I would have never imagined that I would have such a long and incredibly successful boxing career," he added.

Great representative to the sport in every way.
Got his arse handed to him, reinvented himself and absolutely had a stranglehold on the heavyweight division for ten years.

Heavyweights still don't get near the credit they deserve. The pound for pound thing is a joke.

I'm thinking the same thing. I can't think of 11 fighters Wlad couldn't take.
Only guaranteed loss in my mind is Lennox Lewis. The rest suffer from huge reach and height disadvantages.

I don't agree with that. Most great heavyweights are 6'3+. Tyson and Holyfield kind of break that mold, but are outliers. Ali was very lanky and super fast for his size (6'3). Foreman was freakishly strong. I don't think Lewis or Wlad would have had a big advantage in that way..

Well, I have the unopular opinion that Lennox was one of the most talented and most teachable fighters of all time with the best cornerman/trainer of heavyweights of all time in Emanuel Steward. And let's not forget that right hand of God.
I'd put Lewis against anyone and expect no less than even money. He wouldn't be an underdog to anyone.
Wlad was a more technically sound, but less fluid, version of Lennox.

Have you seen heavyweight fighting of the past 10 years? The quality is horrible.
Most of the athletes that would make great heavyweight fighters are in the NFL and NBA.

Even as bad as it has been (no where near as bad as the late 80s when Tyson ruled basically unchallenged), it is still by far the most difficult. I've routinely watched heavyweights give up more than 50lbs to an opponent. Tyson Fury is 6'9, there was a 7ft Russian heavyweight. Could you imagine a middleweight or lower division guy giving up over 6 inches in height and 50 lbs in weight to an opponent? Mayweather wouldn't even go up 8 to fight GGG..
