He may not be Revis, but he graded higher than Sherman or Haden by Pro Football Focus last year.

People who think he can't cover are just holding over his rookie year against him, IMO. He was outstanding last year.

people are either too young to appreciate deion, or very quick to forget him.

deion and bo jackson were the best two athletes ever! Both played at the highest level in two different sports. Deion is the only player ever to play in a super bowl, and a world series. That in its self is hard to grasp. People also forgot how good of a corner he really was, no he didnt like contact, yes he was a pretty boy, yes he liked to show boat.. but dammit you couldnt take your eyes off him. NO one threw deions way, qbs were terrified of him! And when deion got his hands on a ball, go ahead and put 6 on the board because he was housing it! He also returned punts and kickoffss with the best of them. People are also soon to forget when michael irvin went down with injury early in the season deion played wide receiver AND his normal db position the rest of the year.. pp21 is good, but lets not start those comparisons

I also see Deion came into the league in 89 and didn't make his first pro bowl until 91. So after 3 seasons was when he started reaching the height of his dominance. I think a another year or so and PP's skills honed, it could push him into Deions level. I also loved Rod Woods on and is definitely another great one but for me Sanders was the greatest cover corner.

Peterson is arguably the most overrated player in the league.

I hate to say it, but you're probably right.

It's a little early to compare because posters will throw up all of deon's stats vs what they have at the same time in the league.

one big difference....... PP will bring the pain on some players with his hard hitting!! did deon actually hit anyone??

but i will say the deon probably had the biggest mouth in football!

He's "overrated" on LSU message board. Well no shite.

He's still a top 5 corner in the league.

Deions first 3 years in the NFL in INTs. 5, 3 and 6.
Peterson's first 3 years 2, 7 and so far this year 2.

No. He's more explosive but DS was more fluid. He was so damn good at coverage. I don't think Peterson is in his league.

They are really difficult to compare. They play in different times. It is almost a different NFL now for defensive backs/Returners.

Could you imagine if the 220 lbs Peterson could put his hands on the receiver down the field as much as Deion could when he was playing?

Damn, didn't realize that.

Remember when people on the rant thought Claiborne was better than PP?

quote:

Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne has lost his starting job to Orlando Scandrick.
Claiborne is only in his second NFL season, but he has the look of a bust. Working as the third corner, he got lit up by Keenan Allen in Sunday's loss to the Chargers. Claiborne is PFF's No. 99 corner of 101 qualifiers so far this season and was 83rd among 113 qualifiers last year. "He's just got to play better, and he will play better," coach Jason Garrett said.

the switch to zone defense could have something to do with it.

damn I didn't realize Claiborne was doing so bad. that seems odd.

Peterson is overrated, on this board anyway, but he's still in the top 5-10 CBs in the league. He doesn't really deserve to be mentioned with Deion at this point in his career.

lol at people who think Bo and Deion were very good baseball players by MLB standards.

They may not have been "very good" to your standards, but they were definitely good.

Bo hit career .250 and hit an average of 33 hr per 162 games. That is pretty damn good for a guy who played 2 professional sports.

Yeah, pretty wild.

Peterson was atrocious in coverage his rookie year. Seemed to make major strides last year and is continuing this year.

yeah but he averaged 196 strikeouts per 162 games. that's a lot. And he only hit over .250 3 times in his career, topping out at .279. Not bad, but not great or even very good by MLB standards.

topping out at .279.

And did it after a hip replacement.

Plate discipline was a problem for Bo, but hell, that's a problem for a lot of hitters that actually focus 100% on baseball for their whole career. To say Bo was not "even very good" by MLB standards is a bit disingenuous. If you purely look at the numbers, I guess I can see where you can find that argument somewhere in there, but knowing the context is important.

To be fair, Mo Claiborne has been dealing with injuries for most of his career. He has yet to play a game at 100% this season
