you got a link? That's terrible if true

Not only that, but they are full of shady business practices.

From Wiki:

quote:

Komen is a key entity in the controversy over "pinkwashing"—the use of breast cancer and the pink ribbon by corporate marketers, especially to promote products that might be unhealthy—in return for a donation to the cause. Komen benefits from these corporate partnerships, receiving over $55 million a year[54] from two hundred and sixteen corporate sponsors.[55] However, critics say many of these promotions are deceptive to consumers and benefit the companies more than the charity.[56]

They have also frequently sued of the use of the pink ribbon logo as well as the use of "for the cure" name by other charitable causes.

Plus although the cancer runs and adds and stuff doesn't go towards "cancer research", it definitely helps with awareness to the cause

The thing is with breast cancer is that awareness is needed more than research. If women get screened early and often, there are available interventions.

This!

Despite my previous post. Everyone is "aware" of breast cancer, but Susan G Komen foundation has helped a quite a bit with prevention as well as early detection causes.

The CEO of Susan koman makes 700k a year, about 25% more than CEOs of comparable charities and only 20 percent of their budget goes towards actual cancer research....

That is a skewed stat IMO. Koman also probably brings in at least 25% more than other cancer charities. The 20 percent thing is shitty but a lot of big charities are like that, they have to play their employees and stuff. Plus although the cancer runs and adds and stuff doesn't go towards "cancer research", it definitely helps with awareness to the cause

Actually, it kind of isn't skewed b/c their CEO is raking in the money.

quote:

"It's about a quarter of a million dollars more than what we see for charities of this size. . . . This is more than the head of the Red Cross is making for an organization that is one-tenth the size of the Red Cross," Ken Berger, the president and CEO of charity evaluator Charity Navigator, told NBC.

Brinker is outearning not only her equal at the Red Cross but those at several other large charities as well. Feeding America, the fourth-largest U.S. charity, pays its CEO about $409,000, according to Charity Navigator. Komen ranks as the country's 40th-largest charity, according to Forbes.

Not to mention Susan G. Komen's controversial support for Plannned Parenthood.

quote:

It’s that time of year again. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month but sadly, pro-life activists remain unable to support the most prominent breast cancer foundation: Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Susan G. Komen Foundation has long been connected to Planned Parenthood going so far as to make significant contributions ($7,500,000 last year) to the group that holds the title of our nation’s number one abortion promoter and provider.

What’s worse is that Planned Parenthood group has also denied the significant amount of research showing women who have an abortion are 40% more likely to get breast cancer during their lifetime. (The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer has done a great job accumulating the research on this issue.)
