Anything that's a first is a big deal. Remember when Tony Dungy becamse the first black man to be a head coach to win a Super Bowl? It's really about someone leading the way for other minorities that follow. I do believe that it will not be a big deal once more athletes come out as openly gay, and we will hear less of a story about this sort of thing moving forward.

It's a big deal because so many ignorant dumbasses will be upset about it. And he's the first to do it. Black baseball players in MLB was a big story when it first happened, and the same morons outraged by that would've been outraged by Sam.
