Why Doesn't the NFL Let Both Fox and CBS Air Doubleheaders?

LINK

Take this week, for example. If you look at the above link, CBS is allowed to air one game (either 12pm or 3pm), while Fox gets to air a doubleheader. The two networks alternate who gets to air the doubleheader.

Why doesn't the NFL let both Fox and CBS air doubleheaders each Sunday? In Week 17, Fox and CBS do air doubleheaders, but why not let them do it the entire season? You only have six windows as an NFL fan to watch a game (TNF, CBS, Fox (DH), SNF, MNF), why not make it seven?

With how the NFL is doing this year as far as ratings go this would be a great idea...... I am not as big of an NFL fan as I used to be but it would be nice to have a choice of which games I want to watch.....

Not sure why, but I've probably watched maybe an hour total of NFL this year. I've just completely lost interest.

That, and do away with in market games. Let me watch I game I want over having to watch the Jets v. Panthers or some other game I don't care about

Gonna catch flack for this, but I'm tired of watching the Saints all the time! Have lived in three states and it's always the saints!

NFL red zone has made watching 1 game (unless it's my favorite teams) obsolete. Love it.

Because one of the games is designated The Game of The Week and because of that is given a non-compete and thus the network airing the TGOTW can charge higher ad pricing.

Its ALWAYS about the $$$, baw.

CBS and FOX both agree that alternating for the national game of the week (save for the home markets of the other two late games) results in MUCH higher ratings (and ad revenue) than both having their own 'national' game of the week each Sunday late afternoon.

I agree, but doubt it will ever happen.
