Why does offensive interference exist?

I have never understood the reasoning behind it and hope that the posters of this board will explain it to me like I am retarded.

Any 50/50 ball would give the offense a unfair advantage to score. They would just tip in balls while the defense had to stand and watch.

If it did, the best offensive strategy would be to have the tallest man on the court stand right next to the basket, then throw the ball onto the rim every possession and let the tall guy push it in. Defense wouldn't be allowed to stop it either
