Why do they keep calling the OU/OSU game the B12 championship?

I understand that the winner has the best conference record and wins the big 12 conference but this is not a "championship game". If either of these teams had a losing record, this game would still be played. Therefore it is a game for the B12 championship but it is not the "Big 12 championship game".

Because they want people to watch

Because the winner is the big 12 champion. I know it's crazy

Semantics. Who cares? This year it is for the Big 12 title.

Picky.
Bigness conferred to broadcast and to men, rationalizing not putting in tulips for the wife.

Let's say OSU had a losing record, would this game still be played today?

Why do they call it the Big 12? It is hardly a big conference and doesn't have 12 teams.

Defacto Big 12 Championship Game. Does that make you happy?

they wouldn't call it the big 12 championship in that case. Which, again, sounds insane but I promise it's true

Flip over to the Longhorn Network if championship games offend you.

Big ten name is taken.
We are led to imagine a future with 12 teams.

they're getting the last game in on the same day as the other championship games, so are we trying to penalize them for missing the 13th game on their schedule? one that we also try to penalize other contenders for if it's too weak, or at the very least give them no credit?

You're an idiot for asking this question and the B12 are a bunch of idiots for not expanding to have a conference championship.

It just worked out that way for them this year. It actually is a game for the Big 12 championship so it may not officially be the championship game but it is

The winner wins the conference.
Same as the SEC Championship, B1G Championship, Pac 12 Championship, etc.
